This Barbed fitting is used in low-pressure (about 200psi or lower) gas, fluid, and airflow control applications. Using this in high pressure is not recommended, where the pressure could overcome the barb's ability to hold onto the tube. The ridge or barb serration grips the interior wall of the tubing and provides a sealing surface without damaging the tubing wall. The barb is the gripper that naturally holds the tube in place. Typically, it is with soft-side tubing.
