Overview
The Hella Marine Slim Line Square is a blue LED square courtesy lamp for low-level lighting around steps, walkways, and storage areas on board. It is IP67 sealed and draws under 0.5W, with current draw under 0.042A on 12V models and under 0.02A on 24V models.
The lamp face is 60 mm square and the body depth is about 16 mm, which helps when you are working with tight liners, narrow coamings, or shallow cabinetry. It comes pre-wired with short positive and negative leads and mounts with screws through the face for a clean, low-profile install on flat surfaces.
Key features
- Blue LED output for marking steps and edges without throwing harsh light across the cockpit or cabin
- 12V DC or 24V DC versions (by model) to match the boat system voltage
- Very low power draw: under 0.5W, with current draw under 0.042A at 12V and under 0.02A at 24V
- IP67 sealed housing for spray, washdowns, and exposed mounting locations
- Compact footprint: 60 mm square face with about 16 mm depth behind the mounting surface
- Pre-wired short leads for straightforward splicing into a lighting circuit
- Dimming support when used with Hella marine Dimmer 5XA 998 572-001
- Polarity-conscious wiring: reverse polarity will not damage the lamp, but it will not illuminate
Variants
This lamp is offered in multiple configurations that change the bezel finish and the nominal DC system voltage.
Across the range, the blue LED output, IP67 sealing, and the slim square form factor remain consistent, while the finish and 12V or 24V selection determine how it matches the boat aesthetic and electrical system.
- 980582271: Chrome finish, 12V. Suits 12V DC lighting circuits commonly found on smaller powerboats, sailboats, and tenders, with a trim that stands out against darker panels.
- 980582251: White finish, 12V. Fits the same 12V use case, with a trim that blends into white liners, lockers, and fiberglass interiors.
- 980583271: Chrome finish, 24V. Built for 24V DC banks on larger vessels, with the same low-draw courtesy lighting approach and a chrome-look trim.
- 980583251: White finish, 24V. For 24V DC installations where a white trim disappears into light-colored cabinetry, steps, and bulkheads.
What’s included
- Courtesy lamp with pre-wired leads
- Mounting gasket
- Stainless steel mounting screws
Installation and wiring
Mount the lamp on a flat surface so the gasket can seal evenly, then route the cable into a protected space behind the panel before making connections. Keep splices out of bilge water and use sealed connections that match the rest of the boat wiring standard.
Protect the circuit with a fuse rated at 2A maximum and observe polarity at the connections. If the lamp does not light after installation, reversed polarity is one of the first things to check.
Where it works well on board
This style of light is a good match for companionway steps, cockpit footwells, toe-kicks, side decks, and locker entrances where you want a small marker light that can handle spray. It also works in interior passageways and cabins when you want gentle wayfinding without lighting up the whole space.
