Overview
The Raymarine A80297 is a wired handset adapter cable for adding a passive speaker connection to compatible Raymarine VHF radio handset installations. It uses a 12-pin female to 12-pin male connection and includes a male RCA audio lead, giving the handset station a straightforward way to feed a Raymarine wired passive speaker where extra voice output is needed.
At 400 mm, or 1.3 ft, this short adapter is suited to helm, cockpit, flybridge, or secondary station layouts where the handset connection and speaker connection are close together. It is most useful on boats where VHF audio needs to be heard above engine noise, wind, or activity on deck without changing the main radio installation.
Key features
- 12-pin female to 12-pin male adapter connection for compatible Raymarine wired handset setups
- Male RCA audio lead for connecting a wired passive speaker to the handset station
- 400 mm, or 1.3 ft, cable length for compact installations behind a helm panel or near a handset mounting point
- Supports Raymarine wired passive speaker integration for clearer VHF audio at a second station or busy operating position
- Useful with compatible Raymarine VHF systems including Ray50, Ray52, Ray53, Ray60, Ray63, Ray70, Ray73, Ray90, and Ray91 installations
Installation and fit
This adapter is made for installations where the wired handset path needs a passive speaker takeoff. The 12-pin connectors sit inline with the handset connection, while the RCA audio lead connects to the passive speaker. Because the cable is short, it works best when the speaker wiring and handset connection point are planned in the same helm, console, or electronics bay area.
Before fitting, check the rear of the radio or handset station layout and confirm that the connected VHF system uses the matching Raymarine wired handset accessory arrangement. On a refit, it is also worth checking existing cable routing so the adapter is not placed under strain or left where water can collect around connectors.
Compatibility and system use
The A80297 is intended for Raymarine VHF wired handset installations that use a passive speaker. It is commonly used as part of a second handset station arrangement, where the helm or remote station needs its own speaker output for radio calls and DSC alerts.
This is a signal and accessory adapter, not a general-purpose NMEA, radar, power, or Ethernet cable. It should be matched to the correct Raymarine VHF handset and passive speaker hardware so the connector type and audio output are correct for the system.
Use cases on board
This cable is a practical fit for center consoles, pilothouses, flybridges, sailboat cockpits, and commercial-style helm stations where VHF audio needs to be heard clearly away from the main radio body. It is especially helpful when the handset is mounted at the operating position and the passive speaker is placed nearby for better call monitoring during docking, fishing, cruising, or watchkeeping.
