Overview
The Garmin 010-12117-10 is a replacement rechargeable NiMH battery pack for the gWind Wireless masthead wind transducer. It sits inside the sensor and is kept topped up by the small solar panel on the transducer arm, with typical service life around 3 to 4 years.
If your wind sensor starts reporting low battery, drops out intermittently, or no longer holds charge after seasons of sun and salt, replacing the internal battery restores normal operation without changing anything in your instrument network.
This battery is used by both the original gWind Wireless and the gWind Wireless 2, so it also supports many Garmin wireless wind bundles that use the same masthead unit.
Key features
- Replacement NiMH battery pack for Garmin gWind Wireless and gWind Wireless 2 masthead wind transducers
- Continual trickle charging from the transducer arm solar panel, so there is no separate charger to wire in
- Typical in-service life around 3 to 4 years before replacement is needed
- Independent of the boat’s 12 V or 24 V system since the battery lives inside the masthead sensor
- Useful when servicing GNX wireless wind and sail packs that include a gWind Wireless or gWind Wireless 2 transducer
Compatibility and fit
This battery is intended only for the gWind Wireless family masthead transducer. It is not a substitute for wired wind sensors, instruments that take AA cells, or any device that runs from a 12 V supply.
If your masthead wind sensor is the wireless gWind unit with a solar panel on the transducer arm, this is the correct replacement battery.
Installation and setup
Battery replacement is performed at the masthead transducer. Plan to safely access the sensor, open the battery compartment, and close it back up carefully so the unit stays watertight in heavy weather and washdowns.
After installation, give the transducer time in daylight to recharge and confirm wind data updates normally at the display.
Who this is for
This is a good match for sailors running a Garmin wireless wind system who want to keep an existing gWind Wireless or gWind Wireless 2 transducer in service instead of replacing the full masthead sensor.
