Overview
The Hella Marine 358111731 is a green LED lighthead for 12V and 24V DC systems, commonly used as an auxiliary signal or marker light on boats. It runs on a multi-voltage 11-30 VDC input range, which makes it a straightforward fit on most modern DC electrical systems.
This style of lighthead is used when you want a focused, attention-grabbing indicator rather than general area lighting. It supports selectable operating patterns, including a steady mode, and can be set up so multiple lightheads flash together or alternate when installed as a set.
Because this is a lighthead, treat it as an add-on signaling component. If you are shopping for required navigation lights, confirm your vessel’s running-light compliance separately and use a dedicated, approved navigation light assembly for that role.
Key features
- Multi-voltage input (11-30 VDC) for use on 12V and 24V battery systems
- Green LED output for clear visual identification in low light and nighttime conditions
- Selectable operating patterns, including a steady setting, for different onboard signaling needs
- Multi-unit synchronization support when installing several heads on the same vessel
- Reverse polarity protection to help prevent damage from accidental wiring mistakes
- Housing built for exterior mounting where spray, washdowns, and vibration are part of normal boat life
- Aluminum base to help manage heat during extended operation
- Low-profile, surface-mount form factor that fits well on hardtops, cabin sides, arches, and transom structures
Installation and setup
Plan the mounting location the same way you would any exterior light on a boat: pick a flat, supported surface and leave room behind the panel for wiring bends, drip loops, and service access. On cored fiberglass, seal any penetrations properly so moisture cannot reach the core.
Wire it to a switched DC feed with appropriate circuit protection, and use marine-grade tinned copper wire with sealed connectors or adhesive-lined heat shrink. If you are installing multiple lightheads, keep runs tidy, label conductors, and route wiring away from sharp edges, steering linkages, and hot engine-room surfaces.
Use cases on board
This lighthead is a good match for commercial-style boats, tow rigs, and anglers who want an extra visual indicator for deck activity, dockside operations, or low-speed work situations where being noticed matters. It is also useful on larger vessels where a row of synchronized lights is easier to see from different angles around the boat.
Maintenance and care
Rinse salt residue off with fresh water as part of routine washdowns, especially if the light is mounted where spray dries on the lens. Periodically inspect the mounting fasteners and wiring terminations for loosening or corrosion, and re-seal any disturbed penetrations during seasonal maintenance.
