Overview
The Simrad 000-14970-001 is a SiriusXM satellite weather and audio receiver package that adds SiriusXM Marine weather layers and SiriusXM satellite radio to a compatible Simrad multifunction display over Ethernet. It runs on a 12 V or 24 V DC negative-ground system and uses an external SiriusXM antenna to pull the satellite signal to the boat.
On the display, you can view weather data such as NEXRAD radar, lightning, watch boxes, and NOAA Marine Zone Forecasts, and the receiver can also feed stereo audio to an AUX input when the optional audio connection is used.
Key features
- Compatible with Simrad NSX, NSX Ultrawide, NSS evo3, NSS evo3S, NSO evo3, and NSO evo3S multifunction displays
- Connects by Ethernet to the display or an onboard Ethernet expansion port
- 12 V or 24 V DC power input on a negative-ground system
- Supports SiriusXM Marine weather overlays including NEXRAD radar, lightning, alerts/watch boxes, and NOAA Marine Zone Forecasts
- Optional stereo audio output to a third-party audio system for SiriusXM satellite radio playback
- Uses a Sirius SRA-50 type-approved antenna with a 25 ft antenna cable for flexible antenna placement
Installation and setup
Mount the receiver module in a spot that stays sheltered, like inside the console or under a protected dash. It is water resistant, but it is meant to avoid direct spray and washdowns. Plan cable routing so the antenna, power, network, and optional audio leads reach cleanly without sharp bends.
Power is a simple two-wire connection to switched 12 V or 24 V DC, with ground to negative. The network lead goes to the multifunction display or to the boat’s Ethernet network. If you are adding satellite radio audio, connect the included RCA leads to an available AUX input; if your stereo does not use RCA inputs, an adapter lead is required. Install the antenna where it has a clear view of the sky and use the included mounting accessories for deck or pole-mount style placement.
Compatibility and system notes
Weather and radio content requires an active SiriusXM subscription. For chart and weather overlays to make sense underway, your system needs a GPS position source; many multifunction displays have internal GPS, and an external GPS receiver is required when the display does not provide position.
Use on board
This receiver is a good match for boats that rely on chartplotter-based radar and lightning overlays for route decisions, and for crews that want SiriusXM audio playing through the boat’s stereo while underway.
