Description

Overview

The Garmin 0100-N2236-00 is a GPSMAP 86i handheld marine GPS with inReach satellite communication for navigation and two-way messaging offshore. It has a 3-inch transflective color display (240 x 400) with button controls, an IPX7 water rating, and a body that floats if it goes overboard.

For longer trips, the internal rechargeable lithium-ion battery runs up to 35 hours at 10-minute tracking and up to 200 hours in expedition mode. Mapping starts with a worldwide basemap, with support for optional BlueChart g3 charts. It also syncs with compatible Garmin chartplotters and instruments so you can view real-time boat data on the handheld and use onboard apps, including autopilot control and remote operation of select Fusion marine products.

inReach messaging, SOS, tracking, and inReach Weather require activation and an active satellite subscription, and they work best with a clear view of the sky through the Iridium satellite network.

Key features
  • IPX7 water rating with a housing that floats for retrieval after a drop overboard
  • 3-inch sunlight-readable transflective display (240 x 400) with keypad operation for wet hands and gloves
  • Two-way inReach texting and interactive SOS through the global Iridium satellite network (subscription required)
  • Marine and other forecast requests available through inReach Weather when subscribed
  • Wireless connectivity for syncing boat data with compatible Garmin chartplotters and instruments, plus autopilot app access and remote control of select Fusion products
  • Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and ANT+ support for updates, smartphone pairing, and sensor connections
  • Up to 35 hours at 10-minute tracking and up to 200 hours in expedition mode from the internal rechargeable battery
  • 16 GB internal memory and support for a microSD card up to 32 GB for extra storage or preloaded maps
  • NMEA 0183 sentence output and input over USB for compatible computer mapping; it does not wire directly into onboard NMEA 0183 equipment
Compatibility and system integration

On the boat, the GPSMAP 86i can mirror key system data from compatible Garmin chartplotters and instruments onto the handheld, which is useful when you are moving around the deck or checking conditions from the cockpit. Autopilot control and Fusion remote functions depend on compatible equipment and the appropriate onboard apps.

For syncing routes, waypoints, and tracks, it works with Garmin Explore. Wireless updates and phone notifications use Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, depending on how you connect it.

Installation and setup

You can run it as a true handheld with the lanyard, or keep it docked in the powered mount for quick grab-and-go navigation. Charging and computer connections use the microUSB port behind the weather cap. For inReach features, plan on a short activation step and test messaging before you rely on it away from shore.

Use cases on board

This is a strong fit for coastal cruisers, anglers, and delivery crews who want a handheld backup navigator that still talks to the rest of the Garmin system. It is also a practical choice for a tender, kayak, or ditch bag because it floats and can keep messaging working when cell coverage drops.

Maintenance and care

After exposure to saltwater or spray, rinse the unit with fresh water and let it dry fully. Before charging or connecting by USB, make sure the port area and the weather cap are dry to help prevent corrosion. Store it with the cap closed so the connector stays clean between trips.

Missing, damaged, defective, or incorrect items must be reported within 2 business days of delivery, and photos or other documentation may be required for review. If the issue is verified, Apollo Lighting may provide or reimburse return shipping and issue a replacement or refund depending on the circumstances. After your return is received and inspected, approved refunds are issued to the original payment method and may take 5-7 business days to appear after processing. Original shipping and handling charges are nonrefundable, and the value of any included free items that are not returned may be deducted from the refund. Apollo Lighting does not charge a standard restocking fee on eligible returns. Returns that are incomplete, damaged, installed, used, altered, improperly packaged, or otherwise do not meet the eligibility requirements may be refused. We recommend using a trackable and appropriately insured shipping service for all customer-arranged returns.

Product warranty

Many products sold by Apollo Lighting include a manufacturer's warranty covering defects in materials or workmanship. Warranty terms vary by brand, product category, and model, so eligibility, coverage duration, exclusions, and available remedies are determined by the applicable manufacturer. We recommend reviewing the warranty information provided with your product before installation or use, especially for marine electronics, navigation equipment, lighting, electrical systems, pumps, safety equipment, and other specialized marine products.

If you need warranty service, the claim must follow the process established by the manufacturer, authorized service center, or designated warranty provider. You may be asked for proof of purchase, a serial number, product registration, photos, maintenance or installation records, or other documentation. Apollo Lighting does not determine or modify a manufacturer's warranty coverage or final claim decision, but we are happy to help provide purchase information and direct you to the appropriate manufacturer or warranty resource.

Keep your receipt, product documentation, serial number information, and original packaging when practical. Damage caused by normal wear, misuse, improper installation, insufficient maintenance, corrosion, impact, unauthorized modifications, electrical issues, or operation outside the manufacturer's specifications may not be covered. Warranty claims are separate from standard returns, so a product that has been installed, used, or exposed to marine conditions may no longer qualify for return while still remaining eligible for evaluation under the manufacturer's applicable warranty.
