Overview
The TACO Marine V21-9602 is a rigid vinyl rub rail profile for replacing or upgrading the protective rail around the hull and deck joint on many pleasure boats. The profile measures 1" wide by 1-7/8" high and is supplied in 20' lengths, giving boat owners and yards a clean starting point for longer rub rail runs on center consoles, runabouts, walk-arounds, catamarans, and similar hulls.
This rub rail is drilled and countersunk for #10 screws on 8" centers, which helps keep fastening consistent along the sheer. It uses the V12-0303 flexible vinyl insert, sold separately, to cover the fasteners after installation and finish the rail system.
Key features
- Rigid vinyl construction for a rub rail profile that can take the everyday contact that happens around docks, pilings, trailers, and raft-ups.
- 1" wide by 1-7/8" high profile in a 20' length for larger replacement and refit jobs.
- Drilled and countersunk for #10 screws on 8" centers to support clean, repeatable fastening.
- Uses V12-0303 flexible vinyl insert, sold separately, to cover screw heads and complete the finished look.
- Cuts and drills with standard woodworking tools, which helps during trimming, fitting, and end work.
- Requires heat for radius forming when the rail needs to follow curved sections of the hull.
- Color and gloss level are made to blend with gel coat finishes, with Arctic White and Black configurations available.
- Made in the USA and backed by a 5-year limited warranty.
Variants
This rub rail is offered in two color configurations so the rail can be matched to the boat’s existing trim, hull color, or refit plan.
The dimensions, 20' length, screw pattern, and required V12-0303 insert are consistent across the listed variants. The color is the configuration that changes.
- V21-9602WHA20D: Arctic White. This finish works well where the rub rail needs to blend with lighter gel coat and keep the hull-to-deck line visually clean.
- V21-9602BKA20D: Black. This finish gives the rail a stronger visual edge and suits boats with darker trim, black accents, or a contrast rub rail layout.
Installation and fit
This profile is a practical match for many 26- to 50-foot boats, especially where a rigid rub rail is preferred over a softer flexible profile. Because rigid vinyl needs heat for radius forming, curved bow sections and tight corners should be planned before fastening begins.
For a clean installation, confirm the existing rail height, width, insert style, screw spacing, and corner radius against the boat before ordering. Long sections may need careful handling during layout, cutting, and dry fitting so the finished rail sits evenly along the hull.
Use cases on board
This rub rail is suited to refits where the existing rail is faded, damaged, or no longer matching the boat’s finish. It also fits new installations where a rigid vinyl rail with a covered-fastener insert system is preferred for the deck edge.
It is a good match for owners, installers, and boatyards working on coastal cruisers, fishing boats, runabouts, and similar vessels that need a rub rail with defined shape, serviceable fastening, and a clean finished insert.
