Overview
The TACO Marine 1-5/8 in. x 5/8 in. Rigid Vinyl Rub Rail is a 20 ft rigid vinyl rub rail profile for protecting and finishing the hull-to-deck joint on small to mid-size boats. Its 1-5/8 in. height and 5/8 in. width give it enough profile for dock contact, trailer handling, and everyday rub points while still keeping a clean edge along the sheer line.
This rub rail is drilled and countersunk for #8 screws on 8 in. centers, which helps keep fastening consistent during replacement or refit work. It cuts and drills with standard woodworking tools, and heat is required when forming it around tighter radiuses.
The profile is used with the S11-4511 stainless steel insert and F16-0039 end cap, both sold separately. It is a practical match for center consoles, bay boats, fishing boats, flats boats, skiffs, bow riders, and other 16 to 25 ft boats where a rigid vinyl rail is preferred over a flexible profile.
Key features
- Rigid vinyl profile measures 1-5/8 in. high x 5/8 in. wide for a substantial hull edge finish.
- Supplied in 20 ft lengths for replacement, refit, or new rub rail installation.
- Drilled and countersunk for #8 screws on 8 in. centers to support even fastening along the rail.
- Cuts and drills with standard woodworking tools, which helps during fitting and trimming on the boat.
- Requires heat for radius forming, an important point when planning bow sections and curved hull areas.
- Uses S11-4511 stainless steel insert and F16-0039 end cap, both sold separately.
- Color and gloss are matched to gelcoat-style finishes so the rail can blend with the hull and deck edge.
- Made in the USA and backed by a 5-year limited warranty.
Variants
This rub rail is offered in two color configurations. The color changes the finished look at the hull edge while keeping the same rigid vinyl profile and 20 ft length for the listed variants.
The listed configurations share the 1-5/8 in. x 5/8 in. profile, #8 screw drilling pattern, S11-4511 insert compatibility, and F16-0039 end cap compatibility.
- V21-9659WHC20D: Frosty White. This finish gives the rail a light gelcoat-style appearance that blends naturally with many white hulls and deck edges.
- V21-9659BKA20D: Black. This finish gives the hull edge a darker trim line and fits boats using black rub rail, black hardware accents, or darker exterior detailing.
Installation and fit
Before installation, compare the 1-5/8 in. x 5/8 in. profile to the existing rub rail footprint and check the hull-to-deck joint for old fastener holes, sealant buildup, and damaged backing material. The pre-drilled 8 in. screw spacing can speed up layout, but the mounting surface still needs to be straight, clean, and properly supported.
Because this is a rigid vinyl rail, curved sections should be planned carefully. Heat is needed for radius forming, especially around bow curves and tighter transitions. The stainless steel insert is installed separately after the rail is fastened, giving the finished assembly a cleaner face and helping cover the screw line.
Use cases on board
This profile fits well on boats that see routine dock contact, rafting, trailer loading, and fishing or cruising use where the hull side needs a replaceable protective edge. It is also useful during restoration work when the original rub rail is cracked, faded, missing sections, or no longer matching the boat’s finish.
