Overview
The TACO Marine V21-9866 is a rigid vinyl rub rail profile for small to mid-size pleasure boats that need hull and deck edge protection with a clean finished look. The profile measures 1-9/16" x 5/8", comes in 20' length options, and is drilled and countersunk for #8 fasteners on 8" centers.
This rub rail suits refits, repairs, and new installations on boats where a low-profile, medium-duty rail is the right fit. It accepts TACO Marine S11-4511 stainless steel insert, sold separately, and uses F16-0039 end caps, also sold separately.
Key features
- Rigid vinyl profile gives the hull and deck joint a finished rub rail edge for day boats, fishing boats, and other small to mid-size pleasure craft.
- 1-9/16" x 5/8" profile with a 0.749" leg and 1.59" width helps installers confirm fit against the existing rail footprint.
- 20' length supports long rail runs while reducing the number of seams compared with shorter replacement sections.
- Pre-drilled and countersunk for #8 fasteners on 8" centers, which helps keep installation spacing consistent along the rail.
- Cuts and drills with standard woodworking tools, making on-board fitting and trimming more straightforward during a rub rail replacement.
- Requires heat for radius forming, so bow and transom curves should be planned before final fastening.
- Accepts S11-4511 stainless steel insert and F16-0039 end caps, sold separately, for a complete finished installation.
- Made in the USA and backed by a 5-year limited warranty.
Variants
This rub rail is offered in two color configurations within the V21-9866 profile.
The profile size, 20' length, required S11-4511 insert, and F16-0039 end cap remain the same across these variants. The visible color is the main difference, which matters when matching the rail to the hull, deck, or existing trim.
- V21-9866WHC20D: Frosty White. This finish works well when the rub rail needs to blend with light gelcoat and keep the hull-to-deck line visually clean.
- V21-9866BKA20D: Black. This finish gives the boat a darker trim line and is useful when matching existing black rub rail or accent hardware.
Installation and fit
Before ordering, compare the 1-9/16" x 5/8" profile against the existing rub rail, screw pattern, and hull-to-deck joint shape. The rail is a practical match for many 18' to 26' boats, especially where a medium-duty rigid vinyl profile is preferred over a flexible insert-only style.
Plan the run around corners and curves before fastening. Because heat is needed for radius forming, the installer should work gradually through tighter bow or transom sections and avoid forcing the vinyl cold.
System compatibility
This is a mechanical hull protection and trim component, so there is no electrical system, voltage, or marine network compatibility to confirm. The important matching points are profile size, color, length, fastener spacing, insert selection, and end cap selection.
Use on board
This rub rail is a good match for owners and yards replacing worn vinyl rail, repairing cosmetic damage along the sheer line, or fitting a boat that needs practical contact protection at docks and alongside other boats. It is especially useful where the existing installation already uses, or can be adapted to use, the S11-4511 insert and F16-0039 end caps.
