Overview
The TACO Marine 1-13/16 in. x 1 in. Rigid Vinyl Rub Rail is a rigid hull protection profile for boats that need a clean rub rail replacement or upgrade with a finished black or Frosty White look. Each variant is supplied in a 20 ft length and uses a 1-13/16 in. height by 1 in. width profile, giving the hull-to-deck joint a substantial protective edge without moving into an oversized commercial-style rail.
This rub rail is made from rigid vinyl and is drilled and countersunk for #8 screws on 8 in. centers. It cuts and drills with standard woodworking tools, and heat is required when forming it around radius sections, which is an important planning point for bow curves and tighter transom corners.
The profile is built to work with the S11-4511 stainless steel insert, sold separately. Pocketing behind the insert helps air move between the insert and the primary rail, which helps the backside dry after washdowns, spray, and normal use around saltwater.
Key features
- Rigid vinyl rub rail profile sized at 1-13/16 in. high by 1 in. wide for hull-to-deck edge protection.
- 20 ft length works well for replacement runs, repairs, or new rub rail layouts where sections are joined around the boat.
- Drilled and countersunk for #8 screws on 8 in. centers, reducing layout time during installation.
- Works with S11-4511 stainless steel insert, which is required and sold separately.
- Pocketed rail design helps air reach the area behind the stainless insert so moisture can dry more easily.
- Cuts and drills with standard woodworking tools, with heat needed for radius forming.
- Suitable for many mid-size recreational boats where a rigid rub rail is preferred over a flexible insert-only style.
- Made in the USA and backed by a 5-year limited warranty.
Variants
This rub rail is offered in two color configurations. Both variants use the same 20 ft rigid vinyl profile and are intended to accept the same S11-4511 stainless steel insert.
The difference between the variants is the rail color, which affects how the rub rail blends with the hull, deck, and trim line.
- V21-9679WHC20D: Frosty White. This option gives the rub rail a lighter finish that blends naturally with many white gelcoat hulls and decks.
- V21-9679BKA20D: Black. This option gives the rub rail a darker trim line that can match black accents, windshield frames, outboard details, or contrast styling.
Installation and fit
Plan the installation around the boat’s curves before fastening the rail. Straight runs can be cut and drilled with normal woodworking tools, while radius areas need heat so the rigid vinyl can be formed without forcing the profile out of shape.
Because the rail is pre-drilled and countersunk on 8 in. centers, fastener spacing is already established along the profile. The installer still needs to confirm the hull structure, backing, screw length, and sealant approach for the specific boat.
Marine use
This rub rail is a practical match for boat owners replacing worn rail sections, refitting a hull-to-deck joint, or restoring the trim line on a fiberglass boat. It is especially useful where the finished appearance of a stainless insert is wanted along with a vinyl primary rail that can take routine dock contact and washdowns.
