Overview
The TACO Marine V21-3671 is a rigid vinyl rub rail profile for replacing or fitting the protective rail along the hull and deck joint on boats that need a low-profile, medium-duty edge. The profile measures 1-7/16" high by 5/8" wide and is supplied in 20' lengths, giving installers a practical format for hull sides, transoms, and other exposed perimeter areas.
This rub rail is a good match for 16' to 22' boats where the rail needs to help protect the boat during dock contact, trailering, and normal handling around pilings. It is drilled and countersunk for #10 screws on 8" centers, cuts and drills with standard woodworking tools, and requires heat when forming around radiused sections.
Key features
- Rigid vinyl rub rail profile sized at 1-7/16" high by 5/8" wide for a clean edge at the hull and deck joint.
- 20' length supports full-side replacement work and longer installation runs with fewer joints.
- Drilled and countersunk for #10 screws on 8" centers, which helps keep fastening layout consistent during installation.
- Color and gloss level are matched to gel coat finishes so the rail blends with the boat instead of standing out as an afterthought.
- Cuts and drills with standard woodworking tools, making trimming and fitting more straightforward in the shop or at the yard.
- Requires heat for radius forming, an important detail when planning work around curved bows, corners, and tight hull contours.
- Made in the USA and backed by a 5-year limited warranty.
Variants
This rub rail is offered in two color configurations so the visible edge can be matched more closely to the boat’s finish.
The color changes between variants. The 20' length, 1-7/16" height, 5/8" width, and #10 screw requirement remain the same across both configurations.
- V21-3671BKA20D2: Black. This finish works well where a dark rub rail is used as a contrast line or to match existing black trim.
- V21-3671WHA20D2: Arctic White. This finish suits boats with light gel coat where the rail is meant to blend into the hull and deck area.
Installation and fit
Before ordering, compare the existing rail profile to the 1-7/16" by 5/8" cross section and confirm that the screw size and hole spacing work with the boat’s current fastening pattern. For replacement work, checking the old rail at straight sections and curved areas helps avoid surprises during fitting.
Heat is needed for radius forming, so installation should be planned with the proper tools and enough working space to shape the rail without forcing it cold. As with any hull-side rub rail work, careful alignment, clean fastening, and sealed screw penetrations help the finished installation hold up better in wet, high-vibration marine use.
Use cases on board
This profile fits the needs of small to mid-size recreational boats that see regular dock contact, ramp use, and close-quarters handling. It is especially relevant for owners or yards refreshing a worn rub rail, matching an existing TACO Marine profile, or finishing a hull and deck joint with a rigid vinyl rail that is practical to cut, drill, and fasten.
