Overview
The Victron Energy Inverter is a pure sine wave DC-to-AC inverter family for running onboard AC loads from a 12V, 24V, or 48V battery bank. The range covers 250VA through 5000VA configurations, giving boat owners a way to match inverter size to the actual loads on board, from smaller electronics and tools to heavier AC appliances.
Lower-power models in this range use VE.Direct for configuration and monitoring, while the 5000VA versions use VE.Bus for system integration, remote monitoring, and parallel or three-phase setups where supported. Output voltage and frequency are configurable on applicable models, with 120V or 230V AC options across the wider range.
This is a good fit for marine electrical systems where clean AC power matters, such as cabins, galleys, workboats, cruising sailboats, and service areas that need battery-powered AC without running a generator for every load.
Key features
- Pure sine wave output for sensitive onboard electronics, chargers, tools, and AC appliances.
- Available for 12V, 24V, and 48V DC battery systems, making it easier to match the inverter to the vessel’s existing DC architecture.
- Power options from 250VA to 5000VA cover light-duty AC needs as well as larger onboard loads.
- VE.Direct communication on 250VA to 1600VA models supports setup and monitoring with compatible Victron accessories.
- VE.Bus communication on 5000VA models supports remote monitoring, system integration, parallel operation, and three-phase configurations when installed with matching units.
- Configurable settings can include output voltage, frequency, low-voltage behavior, ECO mode, and alarm thresholds, depending on the model.
- Built-in protection covers common inverter fault conditions such as overload, short circuit, battery voltage issues, high temperature, and DC ripple.
- IP21 enclosure rating suits protected onboard installation areas such as electrical lockers, cabin spaces, and dry equipment compartments.
Variants
This inverter range varies by DC input voltage and power rating. The available configurations include 12V, 24V, and 48V DC input models, with power ratings from 250VA up to 5000VA.
The 250VA, 375VA, 500VA, 800VA, 1200VA, and 1600VA configurations are part of the VE.Direct inverter range. The 5000VA configurations use VE.Bus, which is the better match for larger integrated systems where remote monitoring, parallel operation, or three-phase operation may be required.
Installation and setup
Install the inverter close enough to the battery bank to keep DC cable runs short, while still leaving room for airflow and service access. As with any onboard inverter installation, cable size, fuse protection, grounding, and ventilation should be selected for the specific model and the vessel’s electrical layout.
These units are intended for protected locations rather than exposed deck or washdown areas. A dry locker, cabin equipment space, or dedicated electrical compartment is the right environment, especially on saltwater boats where moisture and corrosion can shorten the life of electrical equipment.
Electrical and system integration
For smaller AC loads, the VE.Direct models are useful where simple monitoring and configuration are enough. For higher-load installations, the VE.Bus 5000VA models bring more advanced integration options and can be connected to compatible Victron GX equipment for monitoring and control within a larger onboard power system.
This product is an inverter, not an inverter charger. Battery charging, shore-power transfer, and generator integration should be planned with the appropriate external equipment or with a separate inverter charger system when those functions are required.
Use cases on board
On cruising boats, these inverters can support everyday AC loads such as galley appliances, entertainment equipment, laptops, chargers, power tools, and service equipment when matched to the correct VA rating. On workboats or offshore vessels, the larger VE.Bus models are better suited to installations that need higher AC capacity and integration with a managed Victron electrical system.
