Overview
The Vimar VM10336 is a 230 V AC rotary dimmer for LINEA Classica installations, rated for 60-900 W incandescent loads or 60-300 VA ferromagnetic transformers on 50/60 Hz power. It uses a rotary potentiometer for smooth manual control, and the control is visible in darkness so you can find it quickly in a dim cabin.
This is a good fit for boats with a 230 V lighting circuit fed by shore power or an inverter, where you are dimming traditional incandescent or halogen lighting, or low-voltage halogen lights running through a magnetic transformer. It is not intended for 12 V or 24 V DC lighting circuits, and the minimum load rating matters on board: loads below 60 W or 60 VA fall outside its working range.
Key features
- 230 V AC dimmer for 50/60 Hz systems
- Load range: 60-900 W for incandescent loads
- Load range: 60-300 VA for ferromagnetic transformers
- Rotary potentiometer control with visibility in darkness for nighttime use
- Without a radio interference suppression filter
Compatibility and fit
This dimmer is part of the Vimar LINEA Classica modular range and is meant to be installed as a flush device in the matching system of frames and cover plates. Confirm your existing series before ordering so the mechanism matches your cutout and mounting hardware.
Check your lamp and transformer type before installing. This unit is specified for incandescent lighting and magnetic transformers, so LED drivers or electronic transformers should not be assumed compatible unless they are explicitly rated for this style of dimmer and the total load stays within the stated range.
Installation and setup
Install it on the AC lighting circuit using proper marine wiring practices, correct conductor sizing, and suitable overcurrent protection for the branch circuit. Allow room behind the mounting surface for the device and wiring, and keep connections tight so vibration does not work terminals loose over time.
On boats with sensitive audio or VHF equipment nearby, route dimmer wiring thoughtfully and keep it separated from antenna coax and low-level signal cables. With no built-in suppression filter, placement and cable management can make a noticeable difference in keeping onboard electronics quiet.
Use on board
This style of dimmer is a practical match for cruisers and yachts that still run 230 V halogen or incandescent cabin lighting, such as saloon downlights, reading lights, or indirect accent circuits where you want to bring the level down at night. It also suits refits that are keeping the LINEA Classica look across the interior while updating individual devices.
Maintenance and care
Once installed, maintenance is typically limited to keeping the face area clean and dry and checking connections during periodic electrical inspections. If dimming behavior changes after a refit, recheck the connected load type and total wattage or VA against the device ratings.
