Overview
The TACO Marine GS-390XL is a Grand Slam 390XL outrigger mount for 1-1/2 inch outrigger poles, supplied as a pair for larger center console boats with hardtops up to 4-1/2 inches thick. It gives the crew control of outrigger vertical lift and horizontal rotation from below the T-top, which is useful when the boat is moving, the sea is uneven, or the outriggers need to be adjusted without climbing onto the gunwale.
This XL version uses an extended base so the mount can pass through thicker tops without interfering with the rotation and lift mechanism. It carries the same operating approach as the standard Grand Slam 390, with a stronger gusset, thicker arm, pin-locking setup, and a crank handle for raising or lowering the outrigger from under the top.
Construction combines cast Type-316L stainless steel with machined aluminum, giving the mount the kind of corrosion resistance and rigidity expected around offshore fishing hardware. It pairs with TACO Deluxe Aluminum and Carbon Fiber Tele-Outriggers and suits boats that need a heavy-duty top-mount outrigger base for trolling spreads, pelagic fishing, and regular saltwater use.
Key features
- Sold as a port and starboard pair for a complete outrigger mount installation.
- Fits hardtops up to 4-1/2 inches thick, giving more clearance than the standard GS-390 mount.
- Works with 1-1/2 inch diameter outrigger poles, including TACO Deluxe Aluminum and Carbon Fiber Tele-Outriggers.
- Vertical lift and horizontal rotation can be handled from below the T-top, keeping adjustments within reach from the deck.
- 45 degree upward lift angle helps set outrigger position for trolling and clearance.
- Pin-locking arm and strong locking head help hold the outrigger position once set.
- Offset rotation handle gives extra hand clearance under the top during adjustment.
- Cast Type-316L stainless steel and machined aluminum construction stands up to saltwater use, vibration, and repeated load from longer outrigger poles.
- Includes 5/16 inch x 18 x 5 inch mounting bolts for the XL installation.
- Backed by a 3-year limited warranty.
Installation and setup
The GS-390XL is a top-mount outrigger base for hardtops, T-tops, arches, and similar mounting surfaces that are strong enough to carry outrigger loads. The center opening is 3-1/8 inches, and the installation should leave enough clearance around the handle and locking pin so the mount can rotate freely. The locking pin should face outboard for access from the deck.
For hardtop installations, the mounting surface should be checked before drilling, especially on foam-filled or cored tops. Tubing spacers are used where the bolts pass through the top so the mounting hardware can be tightened without crushing the top structure. Backing plates are recommended when extra support is needed, particularly on larger boats or on tops that see regular offshore loads.
Compatibility and fit
This mount is a good match for larger fishing boats that run longer outriggers and need deck-level control of the spread. It is commonly used on center consoles in the 25 to 50 foot range, especially where a thicker hardtop rules out the standard-length GS-390 base.
Before ordering, the main fit checks are top thickness, under-top handle clearance, outrigger pole diameter, and the strength of the mounting area. Boats with arched tops or crowded hardtop layouts may need wedge plates or extra planning so the mount sits upright and the handle has a clear sweep.
Use on board
For offshore trolling, the GS-390XL lets the crew raise, lower, and rotate the outriggers without leaving the deck area. That matters when conditions change quickly, when a bridge or storage height is coming up, or when the spread needs to be reset while fishing.
When the boat is not fishing, the outrigger poles should be lowered and collapsed for trailering, storage, or long runs where the full spread is not needed. A light rinse and periodic attention to moving parts will help keep the stainless and aluminum components working cleanly in a saltwater environment.
