Overview
The Jabsco 36400-0000 is an in-line Pumpgard strainer for 1/2 inch pump intake lines. It uses a stainless mesh screen inside a clear housing, so you can catch rust, scale, and tank debris before it reaches the pump, while still being able to see when the screen needs cleaning.
This strainer is fitted with 1/2 inch hose barb ports and a 40 mesh screen. Its compact body measures about 4 inches long, 3 inches wide, and 3-1/2 inches high, which makes it easy to place upstream of a pressure water pump where access for inspection and cleaning still matters.
On a boat, it is a straightforward way to protect pump valves and reduce the kind of contamination that can shorten pump life or cause erratic flow. The housing can be installed in any position before the pump, which helps when space around tanks, lockers, or service compartments is tight.
Key features
- 1/2 inch hose barb ports for in-line installation on common pump intake hoses
- 40 mesh stainless screen helps stop fine debris before it reaches the pump
- Clear screw-off housing lets you inspect the screen and clean it without much downtime
- Can be mounted in any position ahead of the pump to suit tight plumbing runs
- Compact size at about 4 inches long, 3 inches wide, and 3-1/2 inches high
- Plastic body with stainless screen for wet service in onboard water systems
Installation and fit
This unit is installed on the suction side of the pump, between the water source and the pump inlet. For the easiest servicing, place it where the bowl can be seen and unscrewed without having to remove nearby hose runs or equipment.
Because it uses 1/2 inch hose barb connections, it is best matched to systems already plumbed with 1/2 inch hose. It is a practical fit for freshwater pressure pump setups where small particles from the tank or plumbing can travel downstream and reach the pump head.
Use on board
This strainer makes sense for boats with pressurized freshwater systems, especially where the pump draws from a tank that may carry scale, rust, or sediment after layup, tank work, or hose replacement. It is also useful in service areas where a quick visual check matters more than hiding the component out of sight.
For buyers comparing strainers, the main point here is the fine 40 mesh screen and the 1/2 inch hose size. That makes it a better match for cleaner water circuits where pump protection is the priority and where routine inspection is part of normal maintenance.
Maintenance and care
The clear bowl makes it easy to spot buildup before flow starts to suffer. Regular cleaning is simple: shut the system down, relieve pressure if needed, remove the bowl, rinse the screen, and reinstall it so the pump is not pulling debris back into the line.
