Overview
The Jabsco 35440-Series is a Flexmount 4 inch DC ventilation blower for moving air through engine spaces, bilge areas, and other enclosed compartments on boats. It uses 4 inch ducting and is rated at 250 CFM (7.0 m3/min), giving a clear fit reference for replacing an existing blower or building a new ventilation run.
The series is offered in 12 VDC and 24 VDC versions, so the right unit depends on the vessel's DC system. The 12 VDC version draws 12.0 amps with a suggested 15A fuse, while the 24 VDC version draws 5.3 amps with a suggested 7.5A fuse. Both versions weigh 6 lb (2.7 kg).
This blower is primarily for intermittent service, such as clearing fuel vapors from bilge areas before engine start. It can also be used for general air circulation where an approximate 1000-hour motor life is acceptable for the application.
Key features
- 4 inch blower body for use with 4 inch ventilation ducting and slip-on duct connections.
- 250 CFM (7.0 m3/min) airflow across the 12 VDC and 24 VDC variants.
- Universal Flexmount bracket lets the outlet be rotated to face any direction, helping shorten duct runs in tight engine spaces.
- Reinforced plastic housing and corrosion-resistant materials throughout for damp bilges and machinery spaces.
- Ignition-protected construction meets USCG 183.410 and ISO 8846 MARINE, with ISO 9097 MARINE compliance and NMMA type acceptance.
- Electrical protection is variant-specific: 15A fuse for 12 VDC and 7.5A fuse for 24 VDC.
Variants
The range is available in two voltage configurations that match common boat DC electrical systems.
The voltage, current draw, and fuse size change by variant. The 4 inch duct size, 250 CFM airflow rating, Flexmount bracket, reinforced plastic housing, and 6 lb (2.7 kg) weight are consistent across both variants.
- 35440-0000: Voltage 12 VDC. This version suits boats with a 12 VDC house or engine-start electrical system and uses a suggested 15A fuse.
- 35440-0010: Voltage 24 VDC. This version suits vessels with a 24 VDC DC system and uses a suggested 7.5A fuse.
Installation and setup
Mount the blower on a flat bulkhead surface in the highest part of the compartment, away from direct spray or deck wash. The Flexmount bracket allows the housing to be rotated so the discharge port can face the most practical direction, which helps keep ducting as short and straight as the space allows.
Route the inlet ducting with as few bends as possible and place the pickup low in the bilge area where vapors can collect, while keeping it above bilge water. Keep the unit away from heat above 130°F, as excessive heat can distort the blower wheel or housing.
Electrical and compliance notes
Use stranded copper wiring and protect the circuit with the correct fuse for the selected voltage. For runs up to 25 feet (7.6 m) from the power source, use 12 gauge wire on the 12 VDC model and 14 gauge wire on the 24 VDC model, with larger wire for longer runs.
The ignition-protected rating makes this series suitable for gasoline engine spaces when installed as part of a compliant ventilation system. Installation should follow the applicable sections of Title 33, Part 183, Subpart K for USCG ventilation requirements and the vessel's existing wiring standards.
