Overview
The JL Audio 010-03854-00 is a hidden marine source unit (MediaMaster 105-HR, MM105-HR) that runs a multi-zone audio system while keeping the main chassis out of sight. It operates on 10 to 15.9 V DC with a 5 A fused power feed, so it is a match for 12 V boat systems (24 V installations need a regulated 12 V supply).
The main unit is rated IP67 for water resistance, which helps when it is mounted behind the helm, inside a console, or in another spot where humidity and washdowns are common. Operating temperature range is -20 C to +70 C (-4 F to +158 F).
Control is handled through a NMEA 2000 network connection (Micro-C) or compatible remotes, rather than a built-in front panel. Audio distribution is handled through four zones, each with stereo RCA outputs and a dedicated subwoofer RCA output, plus AUX inputs, Bluetooth streaming, AM/FM, SiriusXM accessory tuner connectivity, and two USB ports for playback and charging.
Key features
- Hidden chassis style with no built-in front panel controls, intended for use with NMEA 2000 MFD control or compatible wired and wireless remotes
- Runs on 10 to 15.9 V DC (12 V nominal) with a 5 A fuse requirement
- IP67-rated main unit for mounting locations that see moisture and vibration
- Four audio zones with stereo RCA outputs plus a subwoofer RCA output per zone for feeding external amplifiers
- NMEA 2000 Micro-C connection; MFD control depends on NMEA 2000 entertainment protocol support and may require a display software update
- Bluetooth audio streaming with up to 8 paired devices and range up to 35 ft (11 m)
- Two USB ports: USB 1 supports up to 1 A charging output, USB 2 supports up to 500 mA charging output
- Two AUX inputs, AM/FM antenna input, SiriusXM accessory tuner connection, plus illumination input and an amp turn-on lead
Installation and setup
Mount the chassis where it stays out of direct spray but can still be reached for service and wiring. Leave enough slack to secure the harness, RCA leads, and network cabling so movement at sea does not tug on the connectors.
Power wiring is a simple +12 V and ground connection with a 5 A fuse. The illumination input can be tied into a vessel lighting circuit if you want the unit to track that signal, and the amp turn-on lead can be used to switch connected amplifiers on and off with the source unit.
Control and networking
For helm-based control, connect the Micro-C NMEA 2000 port to your vessel network and use a compatible multifunction display or network controller. Remote control can also be added over Bluetooth Low Energy or via wired remote cabling, and wired remotes can be installed at distances up to 75 ft (23 m) with support for up to three remotes on one source unit.
Who it fits
This unit makes sense on boats that already rely on external amplifiers and need zone control across multiple listening areas. It is also a good match when helm real estate is tight and you would rather keep the source hardware hidden, using a display or remote keypad for daily control.
