Overview
The Victron Energy MultiPlus-II 120V is a multifunctional inverter/charger for 120 VAC marine power systems that need inverter power, battery charging, and AC transfer in one unit. It supplies 120 VAC output at 60 Hz in inverter mode, with 5000 VA continuous inverter capacity at 25°C and 9000 W peak power across the two configurations in this range.
This model family is built around shore power, generator, battery, and onboard AC load management. PowerControl helps keep a limited shore power pedestal or generator from being overloaded, while PowerAssist can add battery power during short AC demand peaks. The two AC outputs also make it practical to separate critical loads from loads that should only run when external AC is available.
For boat installations, the main decision is the vessel battery bank voltage. The range includes a 24V DC version and a 48V DC version, both using a 95A transfer switch and VE.Bus communication for monitoring, system integration, and expandable configurations.
Key features
- Combines a pure sine wave inverter, adaptive battery charger, and transfer switch in one 120 VAC unit for marine electrical systems.
- 5000 VA inverter capacity at 25°C, 4000 W continuous output at 25°C, and 9000 W peak power for handling short start-up loads.
- PowerControl limits battery charging when shore power or generator capacity is tight, helping reduce nuisance trips at the dock or on a small genset.
- PowerAssist can supplement shore or generator input with battery power when AC loads briefly rise above the available supply.
- Two AC outputs let critical loads stay powered from the inverter while selected loads can be kept off the battery when external AC drops out.
- VE.Bus communication supports remote monitoring, system integration, and parallel, split-phase, or three-phase configurations using compatible Victron equipment.
- Remote on-off, programmable relay, battery temperature sensor support, and two general purpose communication ports give installers room to tailor the system.
- Steel enclosure in Victron blue with M8 battery connections and screw terminals for 120 VAC wiring.
Variants
The Victron Energy MultiPlus-II 120V is offered in two DC input configurations for different battery bank voltages.
The main difference between the variants is the DC side of the system. The 24V version is for 24V battery banks, while the 48V version is for 48V battery banks. Both versions share the same 120 VAC output format, 5000 VA inverter class, 95A transfer switch rating, and VE.Bus integration.
- PMP242505110: DC input 24V. This version matches 24V house battery banks and operates across a 19-33V DC input range, with up to 120A charging for 24V batteries.
- PMP482505110: DC input 48V. This version matches 48V house battery banks and operates across a 38-66V DC input range, with up to 70A charging for 48V batteries.
Installation and setup
This inverter/charger belongs in a dry, ventilated electrical space such as a protected machinery room, technical locker, or dedicated power cabinet. It should not be placed where it will be sprayed directly, submerged, or blocked from airflow, since heat and moisture are the two things that most often shorten the life of onboard power electronics.
The AC input range is 90-140 VAC, which suits North American 120V shore power and generator installations when the rest of the system is wired and protected correctly. Final installation should account for cable sizing, overcurrent protection, ventilation clearance, grounding, battery chemistry settings, and any class or code requirements that apply to the vessel.
System integration
With VE.Bus, the MultiPlus-II 120V can sit at the center of a larger Victron power system. It can be configured and monitored with compatible Victron tools and connected with GX devices for remote system visibility through VRM when internet access is available.
This makes it a strong fit for cruising boats, sportfishers, workboats, and off-grid marine systems where battery charging, inverter loads, shore power limits, and generator runtime all need to be managed as one system rather than as separate pieces of equipment.
