Overview
The TACO Marine Semi-Rigid Rub Rail Kit is a vinyl rub rail replacement range for boats that need hull-edge protection and a cleaner finished profile at the deck joint. These kits cover common refit needs on center consoles, skiffs, hybrids, and other small to mid-size boats, with profiles available in 30 ft, 50 ft, and 70 ft lengths.
Each configuration uses a semi-rigid vinyl rub rail that can be formed around the hull in one continuous coil, helping reduce visible joints along the sheer line. Depending on the selected variant, the profile measures 1-7/8 in. H x 3/4 in. W, 1-1/2 in. H x 3/4 in. W, or 1-5/8 in. H x 3/4 in. W, so checking the existing rub rail height, width, and hull shape is important before ordering.
The semi-rigid construction gives the rail enough cushion for normal contact with docks and pilings while still handling tight radius bends with minimal heat. It is a practical choice for a boat owner replacing tired rail, covering an edge after hull work, or refreshing the boat’s side profile without switching to a metal rub rail system.
Key features
- Semi-rigid vinyl construction gives cushioning at the hull edge during normal contact with docks, pilings, and trailer guides.
- Continuous coil format supports one-piece installation with fewer visible seams along the boat’s sheer line.
- Available in black and white profiles, with insert options that change the finished look of the rail.
- Tight radius bends can be made with minimal heat, which helps during installation around curved bows and transom corners.
- Made in the USA and backed by a 5-year limited warranty.
- Profile sizes and lengths vary by configuration, making it important to match the rail to the boat’s existing footprint before installation.
Variants
This rub rail kit is offered in three configurations with different lengths, profile sizes, and color combinations. The variants are not just cosmetic, so the selected part should match both the boat’s required coverage length and the existing rub rail footprint.
The 30 ft black configuration is a no-insert style, while the 50 ft black configuration includes a black insert and the 70 ft white configuration uses a flexible chrome insert. The rub rail kit format, continuous coil approach, end caps, screws, and installation guide are consistent across the range.
- V11-4135BKA30-3: 30 ft length, black color, no insert, 1-7/8 in. H x 3/4 in. W. This configuration suits shorter replacement runs where a black rub rail profile without a separate insert is needed.
- V11-9795BBK50D-2: 50 ft length, black rub rail with black insert, 1-1/2 in. H x 3/4 in. W. The black insert keeps the side profile visually uniform while still using an insert-style rail.
- V11-9811WCM70-2: 70 ft length, white rub rail with flexible chrome insert, 1-5/8 in. H x 3/4 in. W. The chrome insert gives the white rail a stainless-look accent while keeping the flexibility of a vinyl insert system.
Installation and fit
Before installation, compare the new profile against the boat’s existing rub rail height, width, and mounting surface. A close footprint match helps cover old fastener locations and keeps the rail sitting correctly against the hull and deck joint.
The coil format is useful for refits because it lets the installer work around long sections of the boat without creating unnecessary breaks. On sharper bends, controlled heat may be used to help the rail follow the curve without forcing the material.
Use cases on board
This kit is a good match for boat owners replacing cracked, faded, or damaged rub rail after years of docking, rafting up, or trailer use. It also fits refit work where the boat needs a cleaner edge treatment after paint, gelcoat repair, or hardware changes along the hull side.
The black versions blend well with darker trim and hardware, while the white and chrome version works well on boats where a lighter rub rail and brighter accent line match the existing finish.
Maintenance and care
After installation, rinse the rub rail with fresh water after saltwater use and clean it with mild boat soap when washing the hull. Avoid harsh solvents or aggressive abrasives, especially around insert areas, since they can affect the finish and make routine cleaning harder over time.
