Overview
The Simrad 000-15734-001 is a SteadySteer flow switch that lets you take the helm through a turn while your autopilot stays armed, then resumes on the new heading once you are back on a straight leg. It plumbs inline in a hydraulic steering line with 1/4 in NPT female ports on both sides and includes a 3 m (10 ft) cable for routing back to the autopilot computer.
On boats where you are constantly making small course changes, this keeps your eyes outside instead of on the controller. Turn the wheel to steer manually, then let the system settle and reengage without button presses or alarms.
Key features
- Instant manual helm override for hydraulic autopilot steering: turn the wheel to take control, then autopilot reengages after the new heading is established
- Compatible with Simrad NAC-2 and NAC-3 autopilot computers running software 1.1.01.00 or newer
- Supports AP44, IS42, and AP48 controllers running software 57.3.163 or newer
- Compatible with Simrad multifunction displays running software 20.2 or newer
- Inline hydraulic installation with 1/4 in NPT female ports on both sides
- May be installed on either port or starboard hydraulic line; mount horizontally and keep a hydraulic hose between the helm and the switch
- 3 m (10 ft) cable length for flexible mounting locations
Compatibility and fit
This flow switch is intended for hydraulic steering systems using older RPU-series autopilot pumps. Confirm your steering lines and adapters match the 1/4 in NPT female ports, and plan a mounting spot where the body can be installed in-line without putting strain on the hose fittings.
Installation and setup
Mount the unit horizontally in the hydraulic line and avoid mounting it directly on the helm; a short hydraulic hose should sit between the helm and the flow switch. Keep it at least 60 cm (2 ft) away from strong magnetic influences such as engines and other large ferrous components.
After wiring, enable the SteadySteer function in your autopilot setup so the computer knows to use the flow signal for the automatic disengage and reengage behavior.
Use on board
This is a good match for cruising and fishing boats that spend long stretches on autopilot but still need quick hand steering around traffic, channel bends, or docks. It also suits operators who want course changes without reaching for a keypad while the boat is moving.
