Overview
The Victron Energy ASS030520200 is a VE.Can to NMEA 2000 Micro-C male cable for connecting a Victron product with a VE.Can port to an NMEA 2000 network. It is used on boats where Victron monitoring, charging, battery, or power-management equipment needs to share data with the vessel’s marine electronics network.
This cable is especially useful when a Victron GX device or other VE.Can-equipped Victron product is being added to an existing NMEA 2000 backbone. In a typical marine setup, it allows system data such as battery, charger, inverter, DC, AC, or tank information to be made available for display on compatible multifunction displays and monitoring screens, depending on the connected Victron equipment and network configuration.
Electrical planning matters when joining VE.Can and NMEA 2000 systems. Victron VE.Can networks can operate across a wider DC voltage range than many NMEA 2000 networks, and this cable includes a removable fuse for installations where the power conductors need to remain separated.
Key features
- Connects Victron products with a VE.Can port to an NMEA 2000 network.
- Uses a Micro-C male connector for the NMEA 2000 side of the connection.
- Supports integration of compatible Victron system data with marine displays and networked monitoring equipment.
- Works with Victron GX-based marine installations where NMEA 2000 data exchange is part of the vessel electronics layout.
- Includes a removable fuse to help separate VE.Can and NMEA 2000 power conductors when the installation requires it.
- Useful for boats that already have an NMEA 2000 backbone and need a clean link to Victron VE.Can equipment.
Installation and setup
The cable should be installed as part of a properly laid out NMEA 2000 backbone, with the network terminated only at the two backbone ends. In most layouts, the NMEA 2000 network remains the backbone, while each Victron VE.Can product is connected through the appropriate drop or conversion cable.
Before connecting the cable, confirm the VE.Can port on the Victron device, the power arrangement of the NMEA 2000 network, and whether the fuse should remain installed. This is important on boats with 24V or higher-voltage Victron systems, or when the NMEA 2000 backbone is powered separately from the Victron equipment.
Compatibility and use on board
This cable is a practical fit for cruising boats, fishing boats, and larger electrical refits where Victron power equipment needs to be visible alongside navigation and vessel data. It is commonly used with GX-centered systems and other Victron products that have VE.Can communication, including compatible chargers, battery monitors, BMS units, and VE.Can solar charge controllers.
Once installed and configured, the connected system can help bring power-system information into the same onboard network used by marine displays and other NMEA 2000 devices. The actual data shown depends on the Victron equipment, connected sensors, display brand, and the way the NMEA 2000 instances are configured.
Maintenance and care
Inspect the connector and cable routing during normal electronics checks, especially in areas exposed to vibration, moisture, or movement behind helm panels and electrical lockers. Keep the connection supported and strain-free so the Micro-C connector and VE.Can side are not carrying cable weight or being pulled during service work.
