Overview
The Blue Sea Systems Dual Battery Bank Management Panel is a DC battery management panel for boats that need clear control of separate engine and house battery banks. The range supports 12V and 24V DC systems with a 32V DC maximum voltage, and the two configurations differ by panel positions, switch family, dimensions, and current ratings.
This panel brings battery switching and key circuit protection into one helm, console, or electrical-panel location. It keeps the engine circuit isolated from the house circuit during normal use, allows emergency cross-connect between isolated battery banks, and helps protect electronics from voltage sags and spikes that can happen during engine cranking.
Key features
- Manages engine and house battery banks while keeping the two circuits isolated during normal operation.
- Allows emergency cross-connect between isolated battery banks for starting support or recovery situations.
- Works with 12V and 24V DC systems, with a 32V DC maximum voltage.
- Combines main DC circuit protection with 24-hour circuit protection in one organized panel.
- Includes two 15A push-button reset-only quick-connect circuit breakers and one single-pole 100A C-Series flat rocker circuit breaker.
- Ignition protected to SAE J1171 and UL 1500 for marine installations that require ignition-protected equipment.
Variants
This product is offered in two configurations. The main differences are the number of panel positions, the battery switch family fitted to the panel, the physical size, and the current rating.
Both versions support 12V and 24V DC systems, share a 32V DC maximum voltage, isolate the engine circuit from the house circuit, allow emergency cross-connect, and include the same 15A branch protection and 100A main breaker format.
- 8686, Positions 4: Uses an m-Series Mini Dual Circuit Plus battery switch in a four-position panel. This configuration has a 300A continuous rating and measures 7.50 in high by 4.50 in wide by 3.25 in deep, which matters when panel space is limited.
- 8690, Positions 5: Uses an e-Series Dual Circuit Plus battery switch in a five-position panel. This configuration has a 350A continuous rating and measures 8.00 in high by 5.25 in wide by 3.50 in deep, giving one additional panel position and higher continuous switch capacity.
Installation and fit
Plan the mounting location around cable routing, battery-bank layout, and service access behind the panel. The selected variant should be checked against the available cutout area and rear clearance before drilling, especially on compact consoles, engine-room bulkheads, or refit panels where existing wiring may limit placement.
Electrical and system integration
The four-position configuration is rated 300A continuous, 500A intermittent for 5 minutes, 1500A cranking for 10 seconds, and 775A cranking for 1 minute. The five-position configuration is rated 350A continuous, 525A intermittent for 5 minutes, 1000A cranking for 10 seconds, and 750A cranking for 1 minute. Cable size, terminal hardware, and overcurrent planning should match the vessel loads and the practices used for marine DC systems.
Use cases on board
This panel fits boats with separate start and house banks where the crew needs battery switching that is easy to understand at a glance. It is also a practical refit choice when scattered switches and breakers need to be consolidated into a cleaner DC battery management layout.
