Overview
The Victron Energy MultiPlus 3kVA is an inverter/charger for boats and off-grid electrical systems that combines a true sine wave inverter, adaptive battery charger, and high-speed AC transfer switch in one unit. This range covers 12V and 24V battery banks, with variants for 120A or 70A charging, 3000VA inverter output, 230V AC output, and a 50A transfer switch.
For charging from shore power or a generator, the AC input range is 187-265 VAC. The inverter side supplies 230V AC output, so this product should be matched to the vessel's AC distribution and onboard appliance voltage before installation.
It works well in protected electrical spaces on cruising boats, fishing boats, and workboats where one unit needs to handle battery charging, inverter power, and automatic AC transfer. The transfer function takes over in less than 20 milliseconds when AC input drops out, helping sensitive electronics and onboard AC circuits keep running without a noticeable interruption.
Key features
- True sine wave inverter output for running compatible 230V AC onboard loads from a 12V or 24V battery bank.
- 3000VA inverter rating, with 2400W continuous output at 25 degrees Celsius and 6000W peak power.
- Adaptive battery charging with variant-specific charge output: 120A for 12V systems or 70A for 24V systems.
- 50A AC transfer switch for integrating shore power or generator input with the vessel's AC distribution.
- PowerControl helps limit draw from a small shore pedestal or generator by reducing charge current when other AC loads are active.
- PowerAssist can add battery inverter power during short peak loads when the AC source is limited.
- VE.Bus communication supports system integration, remote monitoring, and parallel or three-phase configurations when the rest of the system is set up for it.
- Aluminium enclosure with IP20 protection for protected interior installation spaces such as a dry electrical locker or technical compartment.
Variants
This MultiPlus 3kVA range is offered in two configurations for different battery system voltages and charge current requirements.
The main differences are battery voltage and charger output. Both listed variants share the 3000VA inverter class, 230V AC output, VE.Bus platform, and 50A transfer switch.
- PMP123021010: 12V battery voltage with 120A charge current. This version fits vessels built around a 12V house bank where higher charge current helps recover battery capacity from shore power or a generator.
- PMP242301011: 24V battery voltage with 70A charge current. This version fits 24V DC systems often found on larger boats or installations with heavier DC loads and longer cable runs.
Installation and system integration
Install the unit in a dry, ventilated interior location with service access for DC cabling, AC wiring, and communication leads. The IP20 enclosure is not for exposed cockpit, deck, bilge, or washdown areas, so placement matters on saltwater boats.
The inverter/charger should be matched to the battery bank, DC cable size, over-current protection, AC distribution, grounding, and shore power or generator configuration. VE.Bus allows connection to Victron monitoring and control components when the installation includes those devices.
Compatibility and fit
Before ordering, confirm three points: the battery bank voltage, the required charging current, and the vessel's AC voltage standard. These variants are for 230V AC output systems, not standard 120V AC loads.
The 3kVA chassis weighs 18 kg and measures 364 x 295 x 221 mm, so the mounting surface needs enough strength and clearance for cable bends and airflow. This product is a good match for boats that already use Victron power components or need a charger and inverter in one coordinated AC/DC power system.
