Overview
The Raymarine E70461 is a 45STV HD-capable 45 cm marine satellite TV antenna system for bringing Ku-band satellite television to boats around 35 to 50 ft. The antenna uses a 45 cm reflector inside a 50 cm diameter radome, giving mid-size cruising and fishing boats a practical dome size without stepping up to a larger satellite TV system.
This system is built for underway use, with Wide Range Search technology to acquire satellite signals quickly and Dynamic Beam Tilting to help maintain tracking as the vessel pitches, rolls, and changes heading. The 45STV receives Ku-band signals from 10.7 to 12.75 GHz, supports dual or quad RF output, and includes built-in GPS to assist with acquisition.
The Antenna Control Unit accepts 9.0 to 30.0V DC power, so it fits a wide range of 12V and 24V marine electrical installations when wired correctly. The radome is rated IPX6 for protection against heavy spray and washdowns, and the system is a good fit for owners who want satellite TV for coastal cruising, offshore runs, or longer stays aboard where cabin entertainment matters.
Key features
- 45 cm reflector diameter with a 50 cm radome diameter, sized for many boats in the 35 to 50 ft range.
- HD-capable Ku-band reception, with the HD module built into the Antenna Control Unit.
- Wide Range Search technology helps the antenna find and lock onto a satellite signal with less waiting at startup.
- Dynamic Beam Tilting checks signal strength and compensates for vessel motion to keep the antenna tracking while underway.
- Built-in GPS supports faster acquisition, with an NMEA 0183 GPS interface available at the Antenna Control Unit.
- Dual or quad RF output supports installations with more than one satellite receiver, depending on the receiver and service setup.
- 9.0 to 30.0V DC power input at the Antenna Control Unit supports common marine DC systems.
- IPX6 water ingress rating helps protect the radome in exposed deck or hardtop mounting locations.
- Single antenna-to-ACU cable layout keeps the main installation run cleaner than systems that require multiple antenna cables.
Installation and setup
The 45STV is typically mounted where the dome has a clear view of the sky, such as a hardtop, radar arch, or upper deck. As with any satellite TV dome, nearby masts, radar arrays, antennas, or tall structures can block the signal, so the mounting location should be planned before drilling.
The Antenna Control Unit handles system control and connects the antenna, satellite receiver, television equipment, power, and optional GPS interface. A typical installation also requires a compatible satellite receiver, television, and active satellite TV subscription, which are separate from the antenna system.
Electrical and system integration
The system runs through the Antenna Control Unit, which has a stated power consumption of 30W typical and 50W maximum. The 9.0 to 30.0V DC input range makes the unit suitable for many onboard DC systems, but clean power, proper overcurrent protection, and marine-grade wiring practices still matter for dependable operation.
The built-in GPS helps the antenna determine position for satellite acquisition. The ACU also includes an NMEA 0183 GPS interface, allowing integration with the vessel’s GPS source when needed.
Fit and onboard use
This antenna is best matched to boat owners who want satellite TV without using the larger footprint of a 60 cm dome. The 54 cm radome height and 11.6 kg antenna weight should be checked against the mounting surface, overhead clearance, and any existing hardtop or arch equipment before installation.
For cruising families, liveaboards, and fishing crews that spend long days away from the dock, the 45STV adds familiar TV access in the cabin or salon while keeping the deck installation relatively compact for its class.
