Overview
The Raymarine Type 2 Hydraulic Pump is a reversible hydraulic autopilot pump for boats with hydraulic steering systems using 230 to 350 cc steering rams, equal to 14 to 21 cubic inches. It connects into the vessel’s hydraulic steering lines so a compatible Raymarine autopilot system can move the rudder or drive by controlling hydraulic fluid flow.
This Type 2 pump range is offered for 12V DC and 24V DC electrical systems, with both versions working with the Raymarine ACU-400. It is a practical match for boats already fitted with hydraulic steering where the steering ram capacity falls within the Type 2 range, including many cruising, fishing, and offshore powerboat installations.
Key features
- Reversible hydraulic pump for Raymarine autopilot control on hydraulic steering systems.
- Matched to steering ram capacities from 230 to 350 cc, or 14 to 21 cubic inches.
- Available in 12V DC and 24V DC versions to suit the vessel’s electrical system.
- Works with the Raymarine ACU-400 actuator control unit for Evolution autopilot systems.
- Peak no-load flow rate of 2000 cc per minute, equal to 122 cubic inches per minute.
- Maximum stall pressure of 100 bar, equal to 1450 psi.
Variants
This product is offered in two voltage configurations for different onboard DC electrical systems.
The steering ram capacity, Type 2 pump classification, ACU-400 compatibility, peak no-load flow rate, and stall pressure are shared across the listed configurations. The main selection point is whether the installation uses a 12V DC or 24V DC supply.
- M81121: Voltage 12V. This version matches boats with a 12V DC electrical system and the required Type 2 hydraulic steering ram capacity.
- M81123: Voltage 24V. This version matches boats with a 24V DC electrical system and the required Type 2 hydraulic steering ram capacity.
Installation and setup
The pump is fitted into the boat’s hydraulic steering circuit, so the steering cylinder capacity should be checked before ordering. Matching the pump to the ram volume matters because an undersized or oversized drive can affect autopilot response, steering feel, and overall system behavior.
Installation should account for hydraulic hose routing, access for bleeding the steering system, secure mounting, and protected electrical wiring back to the autopilot control unit. After installation, the steering system must be bled properly so air in the hydraulic lines does not cause spongy steering or inconsistent autopilot movement.
Compatibility and fit
This pump is intended for boats with existing hydraulic steering systems, not mechanical cable steering. It is suited to Raymarine Evolution autopilot installations using the ACU-400, with the voltage variant selected to match the boat’s DC system.
Before installation, confirm the steering ram capacity, vessel voltage, available mounting space, and hydraulic system layout. This product is a good match for owners replacing a compatible Type 2 pump or building a Raymarine autopilot system around an existing hydraulic steering setup.
