Overview
The Blue Sea Systems A-Series Double Pole Toggle is a magnetic hydraulic circuit breaker for marine electrical panels, combining manual switching and circuit protection in one panel-mounted device. It is a double-pole toggle breaker, commonly used for AC main circuit protection where both poles need to be controlled together.
This A-Series range is available in black or white with amperage options from 10A to 50A. Verified electrical ratings include support for 120V AC, 240V AC, and 65V DC systems, with an interrupt capacity of 3000A at 120V AC, 3000A at 240V AC, and 7500A at 65V DC.
The trip-free mechanism means the breaker cannot be held ON during a fault condition. That matters in a boat panel because the breaker remains a protective device, not just a switch, when a short circuit or overload occurs.
Key features
- Double-pole toggle circuit breaker for marine electrical panels and AC main circuit protection.
- Magnetic hydraulic trip-free construction combines switching and circuit protection in a single panel device.
- Available in 10A, 15A, 16A, 20A, 30A, 32A, 40A, and 50A ratings for matching the protected circuit.
- Black and white actuator options help match different panel layouts and helm aesthetics.
- Rated for 120V AC, 240V AC, and 65V DC applications when installed in a suitable system.
- Recognized to UL 1077, TUV certified, CE marked, CSA certified, and built to meet ABYC standards.
- Operating temperature range of -40 degrees C to 85 degrees C suits engine room, cabin, and exposed panel environments.
- Uses #10-32 stainless steel terminal screws and #6-32 stainless steel mounting screws for panel installation.
Variants
This product family varies by actuator color and amperage rating. The available colors are black and white, and the amperage options cover 10A, 15A, 16A, 20A, 30A, 32A, 40A, and 50A.
The double-pole toggle format, magnetic hydraulic trip-free breaker type, voltage ratings, operating temperature range, and panel-mount hardware style remain consistent across the range. Select the amperage to match the protected circuit and the color to suit the panel face.
Installation and fit
This breaker is intended for installation in a compatible Blue Sea Systems A-Series panel opening or a suitable marine electrical panel. The double-pole format is useful where two conductors need linked switching and protection, such as AC main protection on many boat electrical systems.
Installation should follow the vessel wiring plan and the required circuit rating. Terminal screw torque is 14 in-lb, and mounting screw torque is 6 in-lb, which helps maintain a secure connection in a boat environment where vibration and movement are part of normal use.
Electrical use on board
On cruising boats, fishing boats, and refit projects, this breaker is a practical choice for panel circuits that need a clear toggle position and proper overcurrent protection. The linked double-pole action keeps both poles operating together, which is important for many AC panel layouts.
The amperage range makes the same breaker style useful across different circuits in one panel, helping keep the helm or distribution panel consistent while still matching each circuit to its required protection level.
