Overview
The Vimar VMV55002 is a surface-mount IP44 junction box for protecting cable splices and small junctions in onboard electrical runs. It is an 80 mm diameter, 40 mm deep box with an overall outside envelope of 98 x 98 x 44 mm, which helps when you are fitting it behind liners, inside consoles, or under a hardtop.
Four trimmable step-membrane entries handle cable or conduit runs sized for 20/25 mm, and the housing is plastic in RAL 7035 grey. Rated insulation voltage (Ui) is 450 V and the working temperature range is 0 to 60 C.
IP44 suits sheltered areas where you need protection from splashes and dripping water, not locations that see direct washdowns or standing water.
Key features
- IP44 degree of protection for sheltered marine installations exposed to splashes and drip
- Surface-mount format for wall or ceiling mounting inside cabins, lockers, and console voids
- Four cable entries with trimmable step-membrane feed-throughs for 20/25 mm conduit runs
- Nominal size 80 mm diameter x 40 mm deep, with an overall outside envelope of 98 x 98 x 44 mm
- Rated insulation voltage (Ui) 450 V and working temperature range 0 to 60 C
- Solid cover (not transparent) to keep the wiring protected from knocks and snagging
Installation and setup
Mount the box on a flat bulkhead or overhead where you can still reach the cover for future checks. Trim only the membrane steps you need so the entry grips the cable or conduit closely, then route cables with a drip loop so water does not run straight toward the entry points.
Keep terminations supported inside the box and avoid leaving tension on the conductors. On boats that see vibration and pounding, strain relief and neat cable dressing make a noticeable difference over time.
Compatibility and fit
The four entries are intended for conduit or tube runs in the 20/25 mm range, which is common for small cable chases on boats. This size works well when you need an accessible junction point for lighting circuits, instrument feeds, and accessory wiring inside protected spaces.
The working temperature range is 0 to 60 C, so it is best placed away from consistently hot areas such as tight engine spaces without ventilation.
Use and protection on board
IP44 means it handles splashes and dripping water, but it is not a submersible enclosure. For cockpit soles, deck penetrations, and areas that get hose-downs, place it in a protected void or use an enclosure with a higher ingress rating.
This junction box is a good match for tidy refits and new installations where you want a compact enclosure that keeps junctions accessible without taking up much room.
Maintenance and care
During seasonal checks, inspect the cover seating and the entry membranes for cuts or cracking. If you see salt buildup around the entries, clean the area and re-seat the wiring so the fit stays consistent.
