Overview
The Vimar VMV55108 is a surface-mount IP55 junction box sized 240 x 190 x 90 mm for making and protecting cable splices and branch connections on board. The plastic enclosure helps keep wiring organized in lockers, console cavities, and other service areas that see spray, dust, and vibration, while the cover is held down with stainless steel screws. It uses trimmable step-membrane entries and provides 12 inlets, with entry sizing that suits 20 mm and 25 mm tube or conduit.
Rated insulation voltage is 450 V and the working temperature range is 0 to 60 C. It is a good fit when you need a dry, reachable junction point for accessory circuits and equipment wiring, but it is not intended for mounting under water or in locations that regularly flood.
Key features
- IP55 enclosure rating for protection against dust and water jets from spray and washdowns.
- Surface-mount installation for walls and ceilings (bulkheads and overheads).
- External dimensions: 240 x 190 x 90 mm.
- Plastic housing in RAL 7035 grey with an untreated surface.
- 12 trimmable step-membrane inlets for cable entries, sized for 20 mm and 25 mm tube or conduit.
- Blind cover fastened with stainless steel screws for a serviceable closure.
- Rated insulation voltage Ui 450 V; working temperature 0 to 60 C.
Installation and setup
Mount the box to a flat surface where the lid can be opened later for inspection. Plan cable routing so entries face down or sideways where practical, trim only the membranes you need, and leave enough slack inside for re-terminations. After wiring is landed, make sure the cover seats evenly all the way around and tighten the cover screws snugly to maintain the IP55 seal.
Compatibility and fit
The 240 x 190 x 90 mm footprint leaves room for splices, service loops, and add-on terminal hardware, but check clearance for wire bend radius and for opening the lid in tight lockers. The step-membrane entries are meant to be trimmed to the cable or conduit outside diameter, with support for 20 mm and 25 mm tube sizes when you are bringing wiring in through conduit.
Maintenance and inspection
In saltwater environments, open the box periodically and check for moisture traces, loose terminations, or corrosion starting at splices. Replace or re-seat any membranes that were nicked during pulls, and re-tighten the cover screws after early shakedown runs if the installation has seen heavy vibration.
