Overview
The Vimar VMV55107 is an IP55 junction box for surface mounting when you need to protect wire splices and terminal connections in areas that see spray, washdowns, and humidity on board.
It is sized as 190 x 140 x 70 mm and uses a screwed lid held by stainless steel fasteners. Ten trimmable step-membrane inlets make it practical for bringing in multiple cables or 20/25 mm conduit, while keeping the entry points snug once trimmed.
The housing is plastic in grey (RAL 7035), with a rated insulation voltage of 450 V and a working temperature range of 0 to 60 C. It is intended for wall or ceiling mounting and should be kept out of fully submerged locations such as bilges that hold standing water.
Key features
- IP55 protection for damp lockers, consoles, and exterior wiring points that get occasional spray.
- Surface-mount installation for wall or ceiling mounting.
- Nominal size 190 x 140 x 70 mm.
- Ten cable entries with trimmable step membranes to match the cable or conduit size.
- Cover secured with stainless steel screws for better corrosion resistance around the fasteners.
- Rated insulation voltage (Ui) 450 V.
- Working temperature range 0 to 60 C.
Installation and setup
Mount the box to a flat bulkhead or overhead where you can still access the lid screws for inspection later. When bringing cables through the step membranes, trim only as much as needed so the membrane stays tight on the jacket, and leave a drip loop on any cable that approaches from above.
On runs that see vibration, support cables close to the box so movement does not work the entries loose over time. Keep terminations and splices arranged so the lid closes without pinching conductors.
Compatibility and fit
This enclosure is commonly used as a junction point for lighting circuits, deck hardware feeds, or accessory wiring where a sealed, surface-mounted box keeps connections organized. It suits coastal cruisers and working boats that want protection from spray and humidity without needing a submersible enclosure.
As with any junction box, water resistance depends on clean cable jackets, correctly trimmed membranes, and an installation surface that lets the cover sit flat and tighten evenly.
Maintenance and care
Check the lid screws and the cable entries periodically, especially after heavy washdowns or if the box lives in a cockpit locker. If you open the box for service, wipe away any moisture, re-seat cables, and tighten the lid evenly so the cover stays square against the housing.
