Overview
The Garmin 010-12992-02 is a bail mount with knobs that lets you surface-mount a compatible GPSMAP 12x3 series chartplotter and tilt it to the viewing angle you want at the helm.
It is used with 12-inch GPSMAP models such as GPSMAP 1223, 1223xsv, 1243, and 1243xsv. A bail mount is a good match when you want the display on top of the dash or an electronics box instead of cutting a flush-mount opening.
Key features
- Fits Garmin GPSMAP 12x3 series chartplotters, including GPSMAP 1223, 1223xsv, 1243, and 1243xsv
- Surface-mount bracket style for mounting on a flat console, dash, or overhead electronics box
- Side knobs make it easy to set and re-set the viewing angle without tools
- Tilting mount helps keep the screen readable when you move between seated and standing helm positions
- Useful as a replacement mount or for building out a second helm station
Compatibility and fit
Confirm you are ordering the bail mount style for your GPSMAP 12x3 display. Flush-mount kits use a different approach and are not interchangeable with a bail mount bracket.
Plan for clearance on both sides for the knobs and enough room behind the unit for power and data cables to route without being forced into a tight bend.
Installation and setup
Mount it to a section of the dash or electronics box that is flat and rigid so the display does not bounce in chop. Before drilling, check that the unit can tilt through its range without hitting a windscreen frame, throttle binnacle, or grab rail.
On thin fiberglass, a backing plate helps spread the load and reduces flexing over time. Seal any drilled holes to keep water out of the core, and use fasteners that match your mounting surface and the environment.
Use on board
This mount works well on center consoles, pilothouses, and flybridges where the chartplotter needs to be angled toward the operator and occasionally adjusted for sun or changing helm positions.
Maintenance and care
Rinse with fresh water after salt spray and keep grit out of the knob threads and pivot points. If the mount starts to feel gritty, clean it before tightening the knobs further.
