Overview
The Victron Energy MultiPlus-II 24/3000/70-50 120V is a 24V inverter/charger for boats and mobile power systems that need dependable 120V AC power from a battery bank, shore power, or a generator. This model combines a 3000VA inverter, a 70A battery charger, and a 50A transfer switch in one unit, making it a practical fit for onboard AC loads, charging, and power source management.
It outputs 120VAC at 60Hz in inverter mode and accepts single-phase AC input from 90 to 140VAC at 45 to 65Hz. PowerControl helps keep a limited shore pedestal or generator from being overloaded, while PowerAssist can supplement the AC source with battery power during short demand peaks.
For marine installations, the MultiPlus-II is most useful in systems where AC power needs to stay available when shore or generator input drops out. The transfer to inverter power happens in less than 20 milliseconds, which helps protect electronics and onboard equipment that should not shut down unexpectedly.
Key features
- 24V DC inverter/charger with 120V AC output for North American onboard power systems.
- 3000VA inverter rating with 2400W continuous output at 25°C and 5500W peak power.
- 70A battery charger supports fast charging for a properly sized 24V battery bank.
- 50A transfer switch manages AC input from shore power or a generator.
- PowerControl and PowerAssist help manage limited AC input and short load peaks.
- VE.Bus communication supports system integration, remote monitoring, and parallel, split-phase, or three-phase configurations.
- Steel enclosure with IP21 protection for protected indoor mounting locations such as an electrical locker or equipment space.
- Remote on-off, programmable relay, and two general purpose communication ports support more advanced onboard control layouts.
Variants
This product is offered in two certification configurations for the same MultiPlus-II 24/3000/70-50 120V platform.
The certification option is the difference between the two variants. Both versions share the 24V battery platform, 3000VA inverter class, 70A charger rating, 50A transfer switch rating, and 120V AC output configuration.
- PMP242305100: Certification Standard. This version suits systems where the standard certification configuration is the required match for the installation and product listing.
- PMP242305102: Certification UL. This version is the UL certification configuration for installations where UL listing is part of the specification or inspection requirement.
Installation and setup
Mount the unit in a dry, protected location with space for ventilation and service access. The enclosure is rated IP21, so it should not be placed where it can be sprayed, washed down, or exposed to bilge moisture.
Battery connections use M8 bolts, and the 120VAC connections use screw terminals sized for 13mm² or 6 AWG conductors. Cable sizing, overcurrent protection, grounding, and AC source switching should be planned by a qualified marine electrical installer because inverter/charger installations involve both high-current DC and onboard AC power.
Electrical and system integration
The VE.Bus port allows the MultiPlus-II to work with Victron control and monitoring equipment, including GX devices for local and remote system visibility. In a more advanced vessel power system, it can also be configured for parallel, split-phase, or three-phase operation when the wider system is built around compatible Victron components.
The optional external AC current sensor can be used for current sensing up to 100A. The programmable relay can be assigned to functions such as general alarm, DC under-voltage, or generator start and stop, which is useful on cruising boats and workboats where power management needs to happen without constant manual switching.
Use cases on board
This inverter/charger is a strong match for cruising boats, fishing boats, and mobile marine power systems built around a 24V battery bank and 120V AC distribution. It is especially useful when the vessel alternates between shore power, generator power, and battery power during dockside stays, anchoring, and underway operation.
It can support everyday AC loads while also keeping charging and source management in one coordinated unit. For best results, confirm that the vessel battery bank, shore power capacity, generator output, ventilation, and cable runs are appropriate for a 3000VA inverter/charger before installation.
