Overview
The Perko 0314 Pilot House Control Searchlight is a 7 inch chrome pilot house searchlight for boats that need controlled, long-range light from inside the cabin or wheelhouse. It uses a sealed beam head with lever-action control, so the operator can aim the light horizontally and vertically without stepping out into spray, wind, or darkness.
This chrome 7 inch version is built around a brass searchlight body with corrosion resistant, splash proof construction, tin plated electrical contacts and wiring, and CE/UKCA compliance. It is available in 12 V, 24 V, and 32 V versions, with beam candle power and wattage matched to the vessel electrical system.
The light is made for pilothouse, hardtop, cabin roof, and similar overhead mounting locations where the control handle can pass through the ceiling. It supports ceiling thicknesses up to 5 inches and gives the operator 380 degrees of horizontal movement and 70 degrees of vertical movement.
Key features
- 7 inch sealed beam searchlight for scanning channels, markers, moorings, dock approaches, and nearby hazards at night.
- Lever-action pilot house control lets the operator aim the beam from below the mounting surface.
- 380 degree horizontal movement and 70 degree vertical movement give wide coverage from a fixed mounting point.
- Can be set for continuous back-and-forth sweep or positioned manually with toggle controls.
- Chrome plated brass construction gives the light a polished exterior suited to exposed helm and cabin-top installations.
- Corrosion resistant, splash proof construction helps the unit handle spray and wet deck conditions.
- Tin plated electrical contacts and wiring help protect the electrical path in a marine environment.
- Fits ceiling thicknesses up to 5 inches, which is important for pilothouse roofs, hardtops, and overhead panels.
- Available for 12 V, 24 V, and 32 V DC systems, so the selected variant should match the vessel electrical system.
Variants
This Perko 0314 searchlight is offered in three 7 inch chrome configurations. Each version uses the same pilot house control layout and chrome 7 inch head, while voltage, beam candle power, and wattage vary by part number.
The correct version depends on the boat electrical system already in place. Matching voltage is important for proper lamp operation, breaker or fuse planning, and replacement bulb selection.
- 0314C0712V: 12 V, 250,000 beam candle power, 100 W. This version suits boats with a 12 V DC lighting circuit and gives an approximate range of 5/8 mile.
- 0314C0724V: 24 V, 470,000 beam candle power, 450 W. This version suits vessels with a 24 V DC system and gives an approximate range of 3/4 mile.
- 0314C0732V: 32 V, 260,000 beam candle power, 200 W. This version suits vessels with a 32 V DC system and gives an approximate range of 5/8 mile.
Installation and setup
Plan the mounting position so the head has clear movement above the roof or hardtop and the lever handle has usable clearance below. The searchlight is a good fit for pilothouses and enclosed helms where the operator wants direct manual control from the steering station rather than a remote handheld control.
Because the light is offered in several voltages, the selected model should match the boat DC system before wiring. The wattage also affects circuit planning, so the installation should use properly sized marine wire, overcurrent protection, and switching for the selected voltage version.
Use cases on board
This searchlight makes sense for powerboats, workboats, cruisers, and larger pilothouse vessels that need a controlled beam for nighttime navigation tasks. It is useful when checking markers, finding reflective aids, lighting a dock or mooring area, or making a slow approach in tight water.
The continuous sweep function can help when searching a wider area, while manual positioning gives more precise control when the operator needs to hold the beam on a buoy, shoreline feature, or deck-level target.
