Overview
The Garmin 010-01616-20 is a GNX Wireless Sail Pack 52 that bundles wind, depth, speed-through-water, and water temperature into a NMEA 2000 instrument system for sailboats. The two GNX displays are IPX7-rated and share the same case size of 4.3 in x 4.5 in x 1.2 in, with power drawn from the NMEA 2000 bus (9 to 16 V) and low display consumption of 0.35 W in daytime mode and 0.4 W with a mid-level backlight at night.
Wind data comes from the gWind Wireless 2 masthead transducer, which sends measurements over ANT and avoids running a wind cable through masts up to 50 ft. The transducer body measures 13.6 in x 24 in, is rated IPX6, and runs on a rechargeable battery supported by its solar panel.
For underwater data, the included DST800 thru-hull smart transducer feeds the NMEA 2000 network with depth, speed, and temperature, using a 100 W element that can read depths up to 330 ft. This pack is a practical fit when you want wind and water data on dedicated cockpit displays, with the option to share that information across a NMEA 2000 network.

Installation and setup
The GNX displays mount flush or on a flat surface, so they work well on a nav pod, bulkhead, or cockpit panel where you can read them while trimming sails. Each display connects to a NMEA 2000 T-connector with a drop cable, and the included terminators and power cable support building out a basic backbone. If you need more reach between stations, plan on additional backbone cable and any extra T-connectors required for your layout.
The gWind Wireless 2 installs at the masthead using the supplied bracket and transmits wind data over ANT to the GNX Wind instrument or to a compatible Garmin GPSMAP chartplotter. The DST800 requires a thru-hull install below the waterline, so it is typically handled during a haul-out with proper bedding, sealing, and routing of the sensor cable to the NMEA 2000 network connection point.
Compatibility and fit
This pack is built around NMEA 2000, so it fits best on boats that already have a NMEA 2000 backbone or where you plan to install one. The instruments operate from the NMEA 2000 supply voltage range of 9 to 16 V, which aligns with standard NMEA 2000 power practices even on vessels with higher-voltage house banks.
For placement near a compass, the compass-safe distance is listed as 8.25 in for the GNX Wind and GNX 20 displays. For the underwater sensor, confirm your hull location has clean water flow for accurate speed and depth readings, and that you have access inside the boat for tightening and servicing a thru-hull fitting.
On-board use
On a racing boat, the GNX Wind display layout helps keep wind angle and wind rose information in view while helming and calling trim changes. On a cruising boat, the GNX 20 and DST800 combination keeps depth, speed-through-water, and temperature visible at a glance when entering unfamiliar anchorages or navigating skinny water.
