Overview
The Garmin 010-02366-61/GT23M is a 9-inch GPSMAP 943xsv GN+ chartplotter and fishfinder combo that includes a GT23-TM transducer for CHIRP traditional sonar and CHIRP ClearVü scanning. The touchscreen display uses a 1280 x 720 WXGA resolution, and the unit runs on 10 to 32V DC, so it fits 12V and 24V boats with standard marine power wiring. It carries an IPX7 water rating for real helm life, including spray, washdowns, and constant vibration.
This combo comes with built-in Garmin Navionics+ charting and supports two microSD cards on the back of the unit for charts, data, and updates. For system integration, it includes Garmin Marine Network, NMEA 2000, NMEA 0183, and J1939 connections, plus a composite video input (BNC) for supported cameras. Built-in Wi-Fi supports app-based features such as syncing, notifications, and software updates.
It is a good match for anglers who want a clean connected helm for coastal and offshore runs, and for cruisers who want a modern charting display with sonar in the same screen. If you plan to run multiple displays, radar, autopilot, AIS, audio, or engine data on one network, the built-in ports make it easier to tie those pieces together without workarounds.
Key features
- 9.0-inch touchscreen display (7.8 x 4.4 inches viewable) with 1280 x 720 WXGA resolution
- Power input: 10 to 32V DC (works on 12V and 24V systems)
- IPX7 water rating for helm mounting in wet, open-boat conditions
- Built-in Garmin Navionics+ charting and two rear microSD card slots
- Built-in sonar support including Traditional CHIRP, ClearVü, and SideVü, with 1 kW output capability
- Networking and integration ports: Garmin Marine Network, NMEA 2000, NMEA 0183 (Rx/Tx), and J1939
- Composite video input (BNC) for supported camera feeds
- Included GT23-TM transducer: mid-band CHIRP traditional (80 to 160 kHz, 600W) and CHIRP ClearVü (260/455 kHz, 500W)
Installation and setup
The display can be bail mounted, flush mounted, or mounted flat, which helps when you are retrofitting into an existing dash cutout. Overall unit dimensions are 9.2 x 6.4 x 3 inches and weight is about 3.6 lb, so it fits most mid-size helms without needing heavy reinforcement.
Plan your power run like any other MFD: clean DC feed, proper circuit protection, and solid grounding. Typical current draw at 12V DC is about 1.37A, with a maximum draw around 3.20A, so wire sizing usually stays reasonable even on longer helm runs, but voltage drop still matters on fast boats with longer harnesses.
Sonar and transducer fit
The included GT23-TM transducer is a transom-mount style that reads mid-band CHIRP traditional sonar (80 to 160 kHz) plus CHIRP ClearVü scanning at 260/455 kHz. This is a practical setup when you want clear bottom tracking and structure detail while you are working reefs, ledges, and nearshore wrecks, without stepping up to a larger transducer.
The chartplotter has a 12-pin transducer port, while the included transducer uses an 8-pin connector, so confirm the adapter arrangement before you start pulling cables through rigging tubes or conduit. The display supports SideVü, but SideVü views require a SideVü-capable transducer, so double-check your sonar goals if side imaging is part of the plan.
Networking and helm integration
For a connected boat, NMEA 2000 handles shared data such as heading, wind, depth sources, autopilot integration, and sensor information, while NMEA 0183 remains useful for older radios, AIS units, and legacy gear. J1939 support helps when you are pulling engine data from compatible systems, and the Garmin Marine Network port is there for sharing data like charts, radar, and camera feeds across compatible Garmin displays.
If you are running more than one screen, think about where the network switch or backbone lives and keep your cable runs serviceable. Leaving room behind the dash for microSD access and connectors makes future updates and troubleshooting much less painful.
