Overview

The Garmin 0100-N2236-00 is a GPSMAP 86i handheld marine GPS with inReach satellite communication for navigation and two-way messaging offshore. It has a 3-inch transflective color display (240 x 400) with button controls, an IPX7 water rating, and a body that floats if it goes overboard.

For longer trips, the internal rechargeable lithium-ion battery runs up to 35 hours at 10-minute tracking and up to 200 hours in expedition mode. Mapping starts with a worldwide basemap, with support for optional BlueChart g3 charts. It also syncs with compatible Garmin chartplotters and instruments so you can view real-time boat data on the handheld and use onboard apps, including autopilot control and remote operation of select Fusion marine products.

inReach messaging, SOS, tracking, and inReach Weather require activation and an active satellite subscription, and they work best with a clear view of the sky through the Iridium satellite network.

Compatibility and system integration

Autopilot control and Fusion remote functions depend on compatible equipment and the appropriate onboard apps.

For syncing routes, waypoints, and tracks, it works with Garmin Explore. Wireless updates and phone notifications use Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, depending on how you connect it.

Installation and setup

You can run it as a true handheld with the lanyard, or keep it docked in the powered mount for quick grab-and-go navigation. Charging and computer connections use the microUSB port behind the weather cap. For inReach features, plan on a short activation step and test messaging before you rely on it away from shore.
