Overview
The Hella Marine 8455 is a through-panel, stainless steel push-button switch with an LED ring and an IP67 rating when installed. It is rated up to 5A and is offered in 12V or 24V versions, making it a practical choice for helm panels and other control points where spray, washdowns, and vibration are part of normal life on board.
The button and body are 304 stainless steel with silver alloy contacts, and the rear uses a 5-pin terminal layout (2.8 x 0.5mm). The LED ring is intended to be wired separately, so it can be set up as a simple power indicator or used to show when the switched circuit is active.
Key features
- IP67-rated when installed for dust sealing and protection against temporary immersion
- Max. switch rating: 5A
- 12V and 24V options available across the range
- 304 stainless steel button and body for exposed helm and cockpit panels
- 5-pin terminals (2.8 x 0.5mm) for switch and LED ring connections
- Fits panel thickness from 1 to 10mm
- Operating temperature range: -20°C to +55°C
Variants
This switch range is offered with either latching or momentary action, in 12V or 24V versions, with red or blue LED ring illumination.
The action changes how the switch behaves in use: latching stays in its last state until pressed again, while momentary returns when released. The voltage option should match the vessel system and the indicator wiring so the LED ring and circuit behavior stay consistent.
Installation and setup
This is a through-panel mount switch designed for dashboards and custom switch panels. Confirm your mounting surface falls within the 1 to 10mm panel thickness range, then secure the switch from the rear and keep wiring supported so movement and vibration do not work the terminals loose over time.
Electrical and system integration
With a maximum 5A rating, it suits many common on-board control circuits and can also be used as a low-current control for a relay when you want to switch higher loads elsewhere. The LED ring can be wired independently to indicate system power or circuit activation, which is useful for quickly confirming what is live at the helm or at a control station.
Use cases on board
This style of illuminated push button makes sense for boats where you want a clean, easy-to-read control point in areas that see spray and frequent cleaning, such as the helm, cockpit, or a cabin switch panel. It is a good match for owners building or refitting custom panels who want an IP67-rated switch body when installed and a clear visual indicator without adding a separate pilot light.
