Overview
The Garmin 010-12721-00 is an adapter cable that lets a 4-pin transducer connect to a Garmin blue 8-pin sonar port on a compatible chartplotter or fishfinder.
It solves the common mismatch when you are reusing an existing transducer but the new display has a different sonar connector. This is an inline adapter that keeps the original transducer lead intact, so you are not cutting, splicing, or re-terminating cables in the boat.
This cable only adapts the connector style. Sonar functions and performance still come from the transducer model and the sounder built into your display.
Key features
- Adapts a 4-pin transducer connector to a Garmin blue 8-pin sonar connector
- Twist-lock style collar on the 8-pin end helps keep the connection secure in vibration and rough water
- Clean install at the back of the display, keeping the original transducer cable run in place
- Useful for portable and seasonal setups that mix a 4-pin transducer with a device that uses the blue 8-pin sonar connector
Compatibility and fit
Check both connectors before ordering. Your transducer lead must be a 4-pin style, and the sonar port on the display must be the Garmin blue 8-pin connector. If your unit uses an orange 12-pin sonar connector, this is not the correct adapter.
If you are unsure, look at the color and pin count on the display sonar port and compare it to the transducer plug already on the boat. The adapter sits between those two ends, so it does not change your mounting style or the transducer installed in the hull.
Installation and setup
Power the display down, connect the adapter at the helm or electronics box, and keep the connection where it stays dry and accessible. Fully seat each plug and lock it in place, then leave a small service loop so the connectors are not carrying strain from movement.
As with any sonar wiring, route the cable away from high-current DC runs when possible and secure it so it cannot chafe in a rigging tube, behind the dash, or near the bilge.
Onboard use
This adapter is a good match when a boat already has a 4-pin transducer installed but the current display uses the Garmin blue 8-pin sonar connector, or when you are setting up a portable sonar kit and need the connectors to match without altering the transducer lead.
