Overview
The Victron Energy Temperature Sensor is a Victron accessory for adding temperature input to compatible battery monitoring, inverter/charger and GX device installations. It is used in marine electrical systems where battery temperature matters, especially on boats with battery banks installed near engine spaces, under berths, in lockers or in other areas where heat can change through the day.
This product range is offered in two compatibility versions: one for BMV-712 Smart and BMV-702 battery monitors, and one for Quattro, MultiPlus and GX device systems. The BMV version measures main battery temperature for charging optimization and high or low temperature alarm settings on compatible monitors.
Key features
- Available in two Victron compatibility versions: one for BMV-712 Smart and BMV-702 battery monitors, and one for Quattro, MultiPlus and GX devices.
- Adds temperature data to compatible Victron equipment so charging and monitoring can account for actual battery conditions.
- BMV version supports main battery temperature measurement and high and low temperature alarm settings through compatible BMV monitors.
- Quattro version is used with Quattro systems and is also listed for MultiPlus and GX device installations.
- Useful on boats where battery temperature can change during shore charging, alternator charging, inverter use or long periods in a warm equipment space.
Variants
This Victron Energy Temperature Sensor is offered in multiple configurations so the sensor matches the Victron equipment already installed on board.
The versions differ by the Victron device family they connect to. Both are temperature sensors for Victron electrical systems, but the connection target is different and should be matched to the monitor, inverter/charger or GX device in the installation.
- ASS000100000: For BMV-712. This version is the BMV battery monitor sensor and is also used with BMV-702, giving the monitor battery temperature data for charging optimization and temperature alarms.
- ASS000001000: For Quattro. This version is the sensor used with Quattro systems and is also listed for MultiPlus and GX device installations.
Compatibility and fit
Before ordering, match the variant to the Victron product in the boat rather than selecting by appearance alone. A BMV battery monitor installation needs the BMV version, while a Quattro, MultiPlus or GX-based installation uses the version made for that device family.
This is not a water-temperature sensor for hull fittings, transducers or instrument displays. It belongs in the vessel electrical system, where battery and equipment temperature information helps compatible Victron devices make better use of charging and monitoring data.
Installation and use on board
Install the sensor as part of the Victron system layout, keeping the cable run protected from chafe, strain and service-area movement. On a boat, the most useful location is normally close to the battery or equipment point being monitored, with the wiring kept clear of hot exhaust parts, sharp edges and wet bilge areas.
This is a practical match for cruising boats, fishing boats and sailboats that already rely on Victron monitoring or inverter/charger equipment and need temperature data included in the electrical picture. It is especially useful where battery charging happens from more than one source, such as shore power, solar, alternator charging or generator-backed AC charging.
