Overview

The Blue Sea Systems Contura Water-Resistant DC Circuit Breaker Panel is a 12V/24V DC switch and breaker panel for boat circuits that need control and circuit protection in one clean panel. It uses ON-OFF Contura switches with embedded ON indicator LEDs and push button reset-only circuit breakers with waterproof boots, so it works well in exposed locations where rain, spray and washdowns are part of normal use.

The panel front is rated IP66 for protection against powerful water jets and includes a watertight mounting gasket. It is also ignition protected for use aboard gasoline powered boats, which makes it a practical fit for flybridges, open cockpits, helm stations and other DC distribution points that may see weather and vibration.

Each switch is rated 20A at 12V DC and 15A at 24V DC. The 3, 4 and 6 position panels have a 45A cumulative panel rating, while the 8 position panels have a 90A cumulative panel rating.

Variants

This panel range varies by panel color and number of circuit positions. Black panels use black Contura switches and black breaker boots, while white panels use gray Contura switches with white breaker boots. The position options are 3, 4, 6 and 8, letting the panel match the number of accessory circuits at the helm or cockpit without taking up more dash space than needed.

Panel size changes with the number of positions. The 3 position version measures 3.75 in high by 4.50 in wide by 3.25 in deep, the 4 position version measures 4.25 in high by 5.25 in wide by 3.25 in deep, the 6 position version measures 7.50 in high by 4.50 in wide by 3.25 in deep, and the 8 position version measures 4.25 in high by 9.37 in wide by 3.25 in deep. Across the range, the same 12V/24V DC electrical format, IP66 front rating, Contura switch style and push button reset breaker layout are used.

Installation and setup

This panel is meant for a cutout installation at a helm, flybridge, cockpit console or similar DC control location. The gasket sits behind the panel face to help keep water out at the mounting surface, while the reset buttons remain accessible from the front for quick breaker reset without opening the panel.

The quick connect 15A breakers simplify wiring compared with loose inline protection, but the circuit load, wire gauge and upstream protection still need to be matched to the boat's electrical plan. For refits, check the available cutout area, panel depth and circuit count before replacing an older switch panel.

Use cases on board

This panel is a good match for controlling common DC loads such as lights, pumps, electronics accessories and cockpit equipment from one visible location. The LED switch indicators are useful at night or in a busy cockpit because active circuits can be checked at a glance.
