Overview
The Garmin BlueChart g3 Vision HD VAW451S is an electronic chart that adds detailed mapping coverage for the Red Sea region on compatible Garmin chartplotters. Coverage includes the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden, plus portions of the Indian Ocean along the coasts of Somalia and Oman. It also covers the Mediterranean from Beirut to Alexandria, including the Suez Canal and Gulf of Aqaba, with detailed chart areas around ports such as Jiddah, Djibouti, and Aden.
This chart includes navigation details such as spot soundings, depth contours, tides and currents, and fishing chart data where available. Vision layers add tools like Depth Range Shading for up to 10 depth ranges, shallow water shading set to a user-defined depth, and 3D map views (MarinerEye and FishEye) for extra perspective when you are interpreting bottom structure and surrounding features. Satellite imagery and aerial photos help with visual recognition around ports, marinas, bridges, and navigational landmarks when your chartplotter supports those layers.
Auto Guidance is available on compatible chartplotters and can calculate a suggested route using your boat settings. It is a planning aid and does not replace keeping a proper lookout and navigating with current conditions and local requirements in mind.
Key features
- Regional coverage spanning the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden, plus Indian Ocean coastal sections of Somalia and Oman, with additional coverage from Beirut to Alexandria including the Suez Canal and Gulf of Aqaba.
- Includes navigation content such as spot soundings, depth contours, tides and currents, and fishing chart information where chart data supports it.
- Depth Range Shading for up to 10 depth ranges to help you keep your display focused on a target depth band.
- Shallow water shading that can be set to your preferred depth, which is useful when approaching unfamiliar harbors or crossing reef-strewn areas.
- 3D perspectives (MarinerEye and FishEye) to give extra context above and below the waterline on chartplotters that support these views.
- High-resolution satellite imagery and aerial photos for ports and landmarks when supported by your chartplotter.
- Auto Guidance suggested routing on compatible units using your boat settings; intended for planning and route review.
- Offered as a preloaded microSD/SD card or as a download that is installed to a microSD/SD card using Garmin Express.
Variants
This chart region is offered in multiple formats to match how you prefer to load charts to your system.
Each option covers the VAW451S Red Sea region; the difference is how the chart is delivered and stored for use in your chartplotter.
- 010-C0759-00: Format microSD/SD. The chart comes on a removable card for use in a compatible chartplotter card slot.
- 010-D0381-00: Format Download. The chart is downloaded and installed to a microSD/SD card using Garmin Express before it is used in the chartplotter.
Compatibility and fit
This chart is made for compatible Garmin chartplotters and sounders that support BlueChart g3 Vision mapping. Confirm your unit supports this chart type and that it has the correct microSD or SD card slot for the format you plan to use.
Installation and setup
For the card version, insert the chart card into the chartplotter and select the map from the chart options on the unit. Keep the card seated while you are using the chart data.
For the download version, use Garmin Express on a computer to install the chart to a microSD or SD card for your chartplotter. Only one chart can be installed to a single microSD/SD card, so plan your card usage if you rotate between regions.
Use cases on board
This coverage is a good match for skippers running the Red Sea corridor, planning Suez Canal transits, or working between major ports and anchorages where accurate contours and port detail matter. The Vision layers are especially helpful when you want depth shading for quick decision-making and satellite or aerial imagery for visual reference around ports and landmarks.
Maintenance and care
Chart cards are small and easy to misplace, so treat them like a key onboard document. Store the card in a dry place when it is not in the chartplotter, and avoid handling it with wet hands to keep contacts clean.
