Overview
The Garmin 010-02919-01 is a 16 inch chartplotter with built-in Garmin Navionics+ mapping and a 1920 x 1080 IPS touchscreen.
It runs on 10 to 32 Vdc, so it fits both 12 V and 24 V electrical systems, and it carries an IPX7 water rating for wet helms and open-console installs. The housing measures 384.7 x 266.4 x 78 mm (15 1/8 x 10 1/2 x 3 1/16 in.), with a 15 5/8 in. (396.3 mm) diagonal display.
This part number is a non-sonar chartplotter. On boats where sonar is part of the system, sonar and other shared data can be brought in through compatible Garmin networked electronics.
Key features
- 15 5/8 in. diagonal IPS touchscreen with FHD 1920 x 1080 resolution.
- Built-in Garmin Navionics+ mapping on a preinstalled microSD card, plus two microSD card slots (32 GB max per card).
- 10 to 32 Vdc input for 12 V and 24 V systems, with an IPX7 water rating for exposed helm environments.
- Garmin Marine Network connections for sharing data like radar, sonar, detailed mapping, and video across compatible devices.
- NMEA 2000 network port (LEN 2, up to 75 mA draw) and NMEA 0183 connectivity through the power/wiring harness (one differential input and one differential output).
- HDMI out for mirroring the chartplotter screen to a second display, plus composite video input via the CVBS IN BNC connector.
- Polycarbonate and die-cast aluminum construction.
Installation and setup
Plan the mounting location with cable routing in mind. The GPSMAP 16x3 chassis calls for 94 mm (3 3/4 in.) of clearance behind the unit to the next obstruction, and the device weight is 4.45 kg (9.8 lb.).
For flush mounting, avoid a flat horizontal surface and test the viewing angle before you cut. Keep the unit at least 85 cm (33.5 in.) from a magnetic compass, and stay within the operating temperature range of -15 to 55 C (5 to 131 F).
Networking and system integration
The NMEA 2000 port connects to a standard NMEA 2000 backbone for sharing data with compatible equipment. The chartplotter is not powered through the NMEA 2000 network, so it still needs its own power connection, and NMEA 2000 network power is typically routed through an ignition switch or an in-line switch to help avoid unnecessary battery drain when the boat is off.
For NMEA 0183, the wiring harness provides one differential input and one differential output, plus alarm and accessory-on leads. If you extend NMEA 0183 or alarm wiring, 22 AWG (.33 mm2) wire is specified.
Garmin Marine Network connections are intended to use Garmin Marine Network cables rather than generic Ethernet cable. If you are tying in third-party Power over Ethernet equipment through the Garmin Marine Network, use a PoE isolation coupler so the chartplotter is protected.
Composite video input comes in on the CVBS IN port using a BNC connector; a BNC to RCA adapter can be used when the video source is RCA. Video is shared across the Garmin Marine Network, not across the NMEA 2000 network.
On-board use
This size of display works well on center consoles, sportfishing boats, and cruising boats where you want charting you can read from a standing helm and enough screen area for split views. It also fits builds where you want one screen to pull together chart data and connected-system information through NMEA 2000 and Garmin Marine Network.
