Overview
The Garmin 010-01512-50 is a 24-inch full HD glass-helm touchscreen chartplotter that comes preloaded with Garmin Navionics+ charts for the U.S. and Canada. The display runs 1920 x 1200 resolution on an IPS panel with an anti-glare finish, which helps when you are reading charts from different helm angles or in strong sun.
This unit is rated IPX7 for spray and washdowns and runs on 10 to 35 V DC, so it fits common 12V and 24V boats. It draws about 6.1 A at 12 V in typical use, with up to 7.6 A max at 12 V, and a maximum power usage of 87 W at 10 V.
The GN+ configuration uses an external GPS antenna (GPS 24xd over NMEA 2000), and the display itself is built to sit at the center of a networked helm with Garmin Marine Network and NMEA connectivity for sharing radar, sonar modules, cameras, audio, and boat data across stations.

Compatibility and fit
Overall size is 22.8 x 16.1 x 2.8 inches, with a visible display area of 20.4 x 12.8 inches (24.0-inch diagonal). It can be installed flush in a cutout or flat mounted, including edge-to-edge layouts when you are building a glass-helm look with multiple displays.
It accepts two SD card slots when used with the Garmin SD card reader accessory. That keeps chart storage and screen capture simple when you want removable media at the helm.
Installation and setup
Plan the helm layout around sight lines and reach, then choose flush mounting for the lowest profile or flat mounting when you want easy access behind the panel. The included external GPS antenna gives you flexibility: mount it where it has a clear view of the sky, or use the under-deck option when the mounting surface allows reliable signal reception.
If your boat is new to NMEA 2000, the included backbone, drop, power lead, and terminator kit helps you get a basic network up and running. From there you can add engine gateways, sensors, autopilot, wind instruments, and other NMEA 2000 devices as needed.
Networking and system integration
The GPSMAP 8624 is a strong match for boats that rely on shared data between stations. The Garmin Marine Network ports handle high-bandwidth devices and let you share charts, radar, sonar sources, and video across compatible displays. NMEA 2000 brings in common boat data on a single backbone, while NMEA 0183 connections can bridge older radios, sensors, or AIS gear that still uses serial wiring.
This setup fits everything from offshore sportfishing boats that want radar, sonar modules, and cameras on one screen to cruising sailboats that want large, readable sailing pages and networked wind and instrument data.
Maintenance and care
Rinse salt spray off the screen and bezel with fresh water and wipe with a soft cloth. Use the protective cover when the boat is stored or when the helm is exposed to direct sun for long periods, and keep cable connections supported so vibration does not work plugs loose over time.
