The Vimar Idea 17003 is a 1-pole, 16AX, 250 V~ two-way rocker switch in the IDEA reduced-module format, with IP40 protection for interior mounting. It is used when one circuit needs control from two locations, such as cabin lights at both the berth and the entry.

It mounts flush in compatible IDEA support frames and cover plates, with versions that occupy either 1 module or 2 modules. Luminous versions add the provision for a signalling unit so the rocker can be found in low light.

Installation and setup

Wiring is made on screw terminals. On a boat, it helps to leave a small service loop and to re-check terminal tightness during commissioning so vibration does not loosen connections.

Because IP40 does not seal against spray or washdowns, place the switch where it stays dry, such as cabins, salons, and protected service areas. For damp lockers or exposed bulkheads, use a suitable enclosure or a higher-protection mounting location.

On-board use notes

Use this style of two-way switch when a single load is controlled from two points, for example a cabin light that is switched at the companionway and again at the berth. It also fits well on boats that standardize on Vimar IDEA plates for a consistent look across cabins and service spaces.
