Overview
The Raymarine A80805 is a B150M medium-frequency CHIRP thru-hull transducer with a bronze housing, 20 degree tilted element, depth sensing, and fast-response water-temperature sensing. It operates across 95 to 155 kHz with 300 W of power and a stated maximum depth of 183 m or 600 feet in suitable conditions.
This transducer is built for boats that need clean bottom tracking and target detail in shallow to mid-depth water, especially for inshore and coastal fishing. Its 26 degree by 17 degree beam helps concentrate sonar energy on fish, structure, and suspended targets without the wide spread of a low-frequency offshore transducer.
The fixed 20 degree tilted element is made for hull deadrise angles from 16 to 24 degrees. When the housing is installed nearly flush with the hull, the internal element angle helps aim the sonar beam straight down, which supports better depth readings and fish returns while the boat is underway.
Key features
- Medium-frequency CHIRP operation from 95 to 155 kHz for shallow to mid-depth fishing work.
- 300 W power rating with maximum depth capability of 183 m or 600 feet under suitable water and installation conditions.
- Depth and fast-response water-temperature sensing in one thru-hull unit.
- 26 degree by 17 degree beam pattern that helps separate fish from nearby structure and suspended targets.
- Fixed 20 degree tilted element for hulls with 16 to 24 degree deadrise.
- Bronze housing suitable for fiberglass or wood hulls.
- Low-profile thru-hull mounting that keeps the installation clean below the hull when fitted correctly.
- Recommended for stepped, planing, and displacement hull applications when the mounting location is selected properly.
- Requires a 51 mm or 2 inch hull hole with 66.5 mm or 2.62 inch usable shaft length.
- Patented Xducer ID technology supports automatic transducer identification on compatible sonar systems.
Installation and fit
This is a tilted-element thru-hull transducer, so hull angle matters before drilling. The 20 degree version is intended for vessels with 16 to 24 degrees of deadrise at the mounting point, not simply at the transom or the boat’s published hull specification. Checking the actual deadrise where the transducer will sit is the safest way to confirm fit.
The bronze housing is intended for fiberglass or wood hulls. It should not be treated as a universal material choice for every hull type, since metal compatibility below the waterline matters in saltwater and in marina environments with stray current risk.
Sonar performance
The B150M is a practical match for anglers who spend most of their time in bays, coastal water, reefs, ledges, and freshwater or nearshore areas where a medium CHIRP band gives useful target detail. The 60 kHz total bandwidth helps the sounder process a wider range of return information than a fixed single-frequency transducer.
As with any thru-hull sonar installation, final performance depends heavily on placement. Clean water flow across the face of the transducer, distance from turbulence, and proper alignment all affect bottom lock, target clarity, and readings at speed.
Use cases on board
This transducer suits smaller leisure and fishing boats up to 8 m or 26 feet that need a permanent thru-hull sonar source rather than a transom-mounted sensor. It is especially relevant for owners who want a low-profile bronze installation and fish in shallow to medium depths where target separation matters more than extreme offshore depth range.
For cruising and day-boating, the depth and water-temperature functions also give useful navigation and situational information at the helm, especially when moving between channels, flats, anchorages, and coastal fishing spots.
