Overview
The Garmin 010-02919-03 is a GPSMAP 1643xsv chartplotter and fishfinder combo with a 16 in IPS touchscreen (1920 x 1080) and preloaded Garmin Navionics+ charts for U.S. and Canada waters. It is a practical fit for helms where you want a large plotter view, built-in sonar processing, and room to grow into a networked system.
The internal sonar module covers Ultra High-Definition SideVü and ClearVü scanning, and it supports 1 kW CHIRP traditional sonar, but it still needs a compatible transducer (sold separately) to put sound into the water. Power is 10 to 32 Vdc for 12 V and 24 V systems, and the unit is rated to handle incidental water exposure up to 1 m for up to 30 minutes.
For system buildouts, you get NMEA 2000, NMEA 0183, and J1939 connections plus two Garmin Marine Network ports, so you can share charts, radar, sonar, and video with other compatible displays and modules.
Key features
- 16 in IPS touchscreen with 1920 x 1080 resolution for clear, full-helm chart and sonar views.
- Power input 10 to 32 Vdc; uses an 8 A fast-acting fuse on the main power feed.
- Built-in Ultra High-Definition SideVü and ClearVü scanning sonar, with support for 1 kW CHIRP traditional sonar (transducer required, sold separately).
- Preloaded Garmin Navionics+ coastal and inland charts for U.S. and Canada waters, including Auto Guidance+ and a 1-year subscription for daily downloadable updates through ActiveCaptain.
- Network and data integration: 2 Garmin Marine Network ports, 1 NMEA 2000 port, NMEA 0183 input and transmit support, and a J1939 port.
- Video support with a composite video input (BNC) and HDMI output.
- Built-in Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and ANT+ connectivity for pairing with the ActiveCaptain app and compatible accessories.
- Physical size 15.1 x 10.3 x 3.0 in and about 9.7 lb for planning dash space and mounting hardware.
Installation and setup
The unit ships with a flush-mount kit and gasket, and it can be installed at the helm where you have about 3.75 in (94 mm) of clearance behind the case for connectors and cable bend radius. Run the power harness directly to a fused 10 to 32 Vdc supply and keep it on a clean electronics circuit to avoid voltage drop when engines crank.
It is rated for operation from -15 to 55 C and it tolerates incidental water exposure, but it still benefits from smart placement away from constant spray, hot engine-room air, and areas where washdowns force water into connectors.
Networking and system integration
NMEA 2000 networking is straightforward with the included T-connector and drop cable, but the display is not powered through the NMEA 2000 backbone, so it always needs its own power feed. If your boat is already on NMEA 2000, you are simply adding another drop at the helm.
For higher bandwidth sharing like sonar, radar, and video, the Garmin Marine Network ports act as a network switch. Use Garmin Marine Network cables for these runs rather than standard Ethernet patch cables, especially in damp helm spaces where corrosion becomes a problem fast.
The NMEA 0183 wiring supports one transmit and one receive port, which helps when you are interfacing older AIS, VHF, or autopilot gear that still uses 0183. The J1939 port is there for compatible engine data on the screen when your engine network supports it, and OneHelm integrations allow on-screen control for select digital switching and third-party devices.
Sonar and fishing use
The built-in sonar module means you can run traditional CHIRP plus SideVü and ClearVü scanning without adding a separate sounder box. Choose a transducer that matches how you fish and where it can be mounted, and plan the cable route back to the 12-pin transducer port before you cut any holes.
If you plan to add live sonar, it is compatible with Panoptix and LiveScope systems (transducer required, sold separately). This setup is a good match for anglers who want scanning detail on structure and bait while still keeping a full-size chart view for coastal cruising and longer offshore runs.
