Overview
The Garmin 010-11643-20 is a 2 kW in-hull or pocket-mounted CHIRP transducer (Airmar R111LH) for depth and temperature on compatible Garmin sonar systems. It runs CHIRP Low (38-75 kHz) and CHIRP High (130-210 kHz) and is rated for depths up to 6,000 ft.
It is typically installed inside the hull, which keeps the bottom free of a protruding thru-hull fitting and protects the element from trailering, lifts, and floating debris. The beam is wide enough on the low band for tracking bottom in deeper water and tightens up on the high band for cleaner detail and target separation.
Key features
- 2 kW dual-band CHIRP: 38-75 kHz (low) and 130-210 kHz (high)
- Rated maximum depth up to 6,000 ft
- Beamwidth: 10° x 19° on low band, 4° to 8° on high band
- Supports traditional and Spread Spectrum scanning
- In-hull installation supports 0° to 25° deadrise; pocket mount is installation dependent
- Bare-wire termination for direct connection to compatible sonar modules
- 49 ft cable for routing from bilge to helm electronics
Installation and setup
In-hull mounting works best on a solid fiberglass section of hull and is not recommended for cored-hull vessels. The mounting location matters more than most people expect: use a spot that stays in clean water at speed and is not aerated by strakes, steps, intakes, or the prop wash.
Because this is a 2 kW transducer, the physical install and cable routing usually take some planning. Leave room to service the tank area later, and keep the cable run away from high-current wiring where possible.
Compatibility and sonar integration
This transducer is meant for sonar setups that support 2 kW power and CHIRP Low/High operation. It feeds depth and temperature data through your sonar module and can be part of a Garmin Marine Network installation, including systems that use modules such as the GSD 26.
Since the lead is bare wire, confirm the exact termination your sonar module expects before installation. If your system uses an adapter or junction point, plan that into the cable run so the connection is protected and accessible.
Use cases on board
This setup is a common fit for boats that spend time offshore and want strong deep-water bottom tracking without putting a large thru-hull assembly in the running surface. It also suits owners who trailer regularly or keep the boat on a lift and prefer an in-hull solution that stays protected.
Maintenance and care
With the element inside the hull, there is very little external maintenance. Periodically check the mounting area for any signs of movement, keep the bilge space around the install clean, and inspect the cable along its run for chafe where it passes through bulkheads or rigging tubes.
