Overview
The Garmin 010-10702-00 is a GA 25MCX GPS antenna that mounts remotely and keeps a low profile, giving your GPS a better view of the sky when the display is installed inside an enclosed helm.
It connects using an MCX connector and includes an attached cable about 3 m (9.5 ft) long, which is often enough to reach from a dash or electronics box to a cleaner antenna location on a cabin top, deck, or rail area with fewer signal blockages.
The built-in magnetic mount holds well on ferrous metal surfaces. On most fiberglass boats, plan on securing it with a separate mounting method that keeps the antenna flat and prevents the cable from chafing or getting pinched.
Key features
- Remote antenna placement helps maintain GPS reception when the unit is flush-mounted, under a hardtop, or in a pilothouse.
- MCX connector for compatible Garmin devices that accept an external GPS antenna input.
- Attached cable about 3 m (9.5 ft) long for flexible routing to a better mounting spot.
- Built-in magnetic mount for quick mounting on steel surfaces such as brackets, rails, or other ferrous metal structures.
- Antenna-only accessory that relies on the GPS receiver in the connected device.
What’s included
- Remote GPS antenna with built-in magnetic mount
- Attached cable (about 3 m / 9.5 ft) terminated with an MCX connector
Compatibility and fit
This antenna connects to compatible Garmin GPS devices that accept an external antenna through an MCX-style port, often labeled EXT GPS. Confirm your device has the correct antenna connection before ordering, since Garmin uses different connector types across product families.
It is a direct antenna connection, not a network sensor, so it does not interface with NMEA 2000 or NMEA 0183 by itself.
Installation and setup
Mount the antenna where it has the clearest possible view of the sky and where it will stay in place in spray and vibration. Keep it away from strong RF sources and electrical noise, and route the cable away from high-current DC wiring runs to reduce the chance of interference.
When passing the cable through a bulkhead or deck, protect it with a grommet and leave a drip loop where appropriate so water does not track along the cable toward electronics.
Who it suits on board
This antenna is a practical match for boats where the GPS unit sits behind a metal windshield frame, inside a console, or below a hardtop that limits satellite visibility. It also fits refits where you want to improve reception without relocating the display or cutting a new mounting hole.
