Overview
The Simrad 000-15649-001 is a wired handset that adds a full VHF control and talk station for Simrad RS100 and RS100-B black box systems, so you can run the radio from another spot on the boat.
The screen is a 256 x 160 monochrome LCD with contrast control, day and night modes, and a white backlight that steps through 10 levels. When the radio is tied into a NMEA 2000 backbone, the handset backlight can sync with the network lighting settings.
The handset is rated IPX7, which suits exposed helms and other areas that see spray and routine washdowns.

- Alphanumeric keypad for entering names and text in menus
- Replay function for the last 60 seconds of received VHF audio

Compatibility and fit
This handset is meant for black box VHF installations where the handset is the primary user interface. It is not a replacement mic for a traditional fixed-mount VHF with a front-panel display.
It is commonly installed as a second station on dual-helm boats, flybridges, or at an inside nav station where you still want full access to channel control and calling functions.
Installation and setup
The handset cable uses a bulkhead connector assembly that mounts through a panel, using a 24 mm (0.94 in) hole for the connector plus two small screw holes for the mounting plate and gasket. Place the handset where the display is easy to see straight on and where the cord run can stay protected from chafe.
For longer cable runs to a tower, cockpit, or aft helm, longer handset cables and extension leads are available separately.
On-board use
Once installed, the handset mirrors the day-to-day workflow of the system, including menu navigation and text entry through the keypad. The 60-second audio replay is handy when a channel change or call sign gets missed the first time.
This setup is a good match for boaters who want to monitor and answer calls while docking, fishing, or moving between helms without leaving the station they are working from.
