Overview
The JL Audio M7 12-inch marine subwoofer is a 4 ohm, 600 W RMS infinite-baffle driver built for strong low-end when you do not have room for a dedicated enclosure.
It mounts through a bulkhead, seat base, or cabinetry panel and works with a large air volume behind it. For predictable bass, plan on at least 3 cu. ft. of air space behind the mounting surface and keep the rear wave separated from the front.
Fit is straightforward to check before you cut: the mounting hole is 12.06 in, mounting depth clearance is 7.94 in, overall diameter is 14 in, and overall depth is about 9.4 in. The front grille sits roughly 1.5 in proud of the mounting surface.
Key features
- 12-inch infinite-baffle marine subwoofer driver for bulkhead and cabinetry mounting (4 ohm, 600 W RMS)
- Optimized for 200 to 600 W RMS of amplifier power with a large rear air volume (at least 3 cu. ft.)
- 4-inch voice coil to handle continuous power in open-air installs
- Exceeds international standards for salt fog and UV exposure
- Removable grille and trim ring for painting and cosmetic matching
- Spade-connector speaker terminals for secure, serviceable terminations
- Transflective RGB LED lighting available on select variants, with light output through the cone
Variants
This subwoofer is offered in multiple configurations to match the look of the boat and whether you want integrated accent lighting.
The options in this range are Transflective LED lighting (Yes or No) and the grille color/style (White Classic, White Sport, or Titanium Sport).
- 010-03285-00: Transflective LED lighting: No; grille color/style: White Classic. A clean front with the Classic grille profile and no lighting wiring to plan for.
- 010-03286-00: Transflective LED lighting: No; grille color/style: White Sport. A Sport grille look with the same non-lit install approach.
- 010-03288-00: Transflective LED lighting: No; grille color/style: Titanium Sport. A darker, metallic Sport-grille finish for builds that are not using LED accents.
- 010-03287-00: Transflective LED lighting: Yes; grille color/style: White Sport. Adds Transflective RGB lighting while keeping a bright, white Sport-grille appearance.
- 010-03289-00: Transflective LED lighting: Yes; grille color/style: Titanium Sport. Adds Transflective RGB lighting with the Titanium Sport grille look.
What’s included
- One marine subwoofer
- One grille
- Six stainless steel mounting screws
- Six stainless steel washers
Installation and setup
Pair it with an amplifier channel that is stable at 4 ohms and sized in the 200 to 600 W RMS range for the way you listen. Use marine tinned wire sized for the run, keep terminations tight at the spade connectors, and secure the wiring so it cannot rattle against nearby structure.
Because this is an infinite-baffle subwoofer, the mounting surface matters as much as the driver. A stiff panel and a good seal around the cutout help prevent panel buzz and keep the bass from canceling out between the front and rear of the install.
Lighting and trim notes
Models with Transflective LED lighting include built-in RGB accent lighting that glows through the cone. If you plan to use the lighting, leave room for the additional wiring and a compatible marine RGB lighting control method in your system.
The grille and trim ring can be removed for painting, which helps when you are matching a custom interior or refreshing an older cockpit.
Use on board
This is a good match for wake boats, center consoles, and cruisers where the sub has to live in a seat base, helm module, or cabin bulkhead and still keep up with wind and engine noise. It also fits well in multi-zone systems where you want a dedicated low-frequency driver instead of pushing cockpit speakers to cover the bottom end.
Maintenance and care
Rinse salt spray off the grille after runs, avoid harsh solvents on the finish, and check mounting screws periodically. If the boat sees frequent washdowns, keep the rear side of the installation dry and ventilated so moisture does not linger around the mounting area.
